People today still listen to music that was popular 40 years ago. On the US charts on last.fm, The Beatles are ranked the #2 most listened to group (at least they were when I last looked). 40 years from now, people will still be listening to The Beatles or music that is popular today, or even classical music written centuries ago.
40 years from now, people will not be playing Doom 3 or Counter-strike. People today don't play pong. At least not in significant numbers.

I'm planning to upgrade my soundcard (onboard) because the microphone capabilities are horrible. I've swapped out 3 mics and no one can understand a word I'm saying on Ventrilo. I used one of my mics on a friends computer and it sounds great to everyone else (he has a decent soundcard). I'm probably going with one of the newer Audigy's or the M-Audio Revolution.
