Massassi Radioshow (podcast)
2005-08-19, 2:21 PM #1
Anyone think that we could do a podcast? I have my computer set up to record any conversations running through skype. So we could do one. But I dont know if anyone else is interested, or what topics we could talk about.
2005-08-19, 2:29 PM #2
You could do interviews with famous jk editors/texturers/hackers/programmers/players

and have interviews with people around here in the gaming industry and do star wars skits and stuff like that.

It's not that hard to make up a bs radio show, we could even have people do commercials you could edit into the show. It'd be great...I can see it now and it's glorious!!!

I'm down if I have time :)

It would be cool to have interveiws with JK Editors, or the people working on SITH2.

Cool:D

Britstorm?:p

Also! you massassians out there who make music could make a theme jingle:D

Edit: Also, what kind of positions do you think we'd need for a radioshow? Like announcers and stuff.
2005-08-19, 2:33 PM #6
Oh yeah, and you could showcase the musicians music on the show too (besides just having them write a jingle).

You could also do reviews of stuff 'ians are interested in like movies, comics, new games, and such.

Great idea compos, we could use a bit of their music for an intro, then have the whole thing play on the outro.
2005-08-19, 2:44 PM #8
there are loads of skilled musicians on massassi, be it pop rock or trance or industrial i think this could be a good concept
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

I think the important question is, who would actually listen to it? It seems like your audience wouldn't be big enough to be worth it.

Well, I'd listen to it...
Stuff
2005-08-19, 2:45 PM #11
We could always put it on Itunes and stuff. I think alot of Massasians would listen to it. Though I don't really know how many people still browse Massassi anymore.
2005-08-19, 3:01 PM #12
if we could give it the massassi flavor but keep it interesting enough for a broad audience then it might get some listeners on the podcast propagator thingies.
places like podcast.net though there are already a billion podcasts out there.

I used to be a SHOUTcast radio guy for J.R.E. Radio on the Zone back in the day.

Please do!

I could provide music and stuff, yeah. I could make new stuff or do a DJ act, whatever. :)
2005-08-19, 3:57 PM #18
I'd listen as long as it doesn't suck. It all comes down to the personalities involved.

Compositionally, though, pretty good!

Hence why I took up using CDJs. I don't consider it piracy or bad because I just do it as a hobby (if I was planning on playing any more raves I'd have to spend thousands of monies on records and I aint that ambitious hehe)

If you ever get a chance to record yourself I'd love to hear it.

Back on topic, I'd be more than happy to record me DJing a set to donate to the show if it was ever needed. Or donate vocal talents and whatever

typo, considerate = consider it?

TONS of podcasts only have audiences of a few hundred, which is about how many this would attract.

You're going to need a lot if you're actually going to pull off more than 15 or so listeners, if you even get that. But anyway, doing it, and doing it right is a lot harder than most of you think. There's a difference between being a DJ a few times on Britstorm as opposed to set it up, get people to listen, get people to talk, having the bandwidth, and making it available to everyone, etc. I don't know too much about podcasting, but if it uses as much bandwidth as SHOUTcast, you're going to need a server dedicated to it to be able to support any decent number of listeners.

Basically all it is is putting up an mp3 every week or so. People download & listen to it, and then you do it again the week after that.
2005-08-19, 4:40 PM #26
It's the same as offering a big file up for download. It's not streaming so speed isn't quite an issue, although people aren't going to want to wait around to listen to it if it's downloading at 8kb/s.

Shoutcast takes more bandwidth as it's streaming live audio to a large number of listeners.

I don't think anyone really expects it to become really popular, I personally could consider a massassi podcast a success if it got everyone whose posted on the forums in the last hour to listen once.

We could put up a news item on the front page each time a new one was released. That would get people's attention.
2005-08-19, 5:55 PM #28
If you folks go through with this, at least make it available via BitTorrent.

Anyone have any ideas on how we should pick who does this thing?
2005-08-19, 9:22 PM #35
I'll pick.

I choose SiliconC, Jim7, and myself.

We can get really drunk and talk about "things."

I've done radio before professionally, and I'm already fluent in interviews etc, so I'd be willing to do editing stories and whatnot.
