The Myst V demo is out.

OMG OMG OMG! I just got it, and so far, I REALLY like how it's all realtime, except for the fact that now instead of real actors they are using 3d people :( I did not know that this game took place right after Myst, I thought it was a sequel to Myst IV...but I'm kind of glad it isn't...because I still need to beat that game >.>

I can't bring myself to play Exile. I'm still on the first island, and it all seems like a kitschy Myst clone rather than an actual Myst game. It's overdesigned. Does it get better after the first island? I hope it does. :(
I'm just a little boy.

Unfortunately, no, Myst III: Exile does not get better, nor does Myst IV: Revelation for that matter. I still have some hope for Myst V because Cyan is actually doing it, instead of Presto or Ubi.

Cyan Is currently having some financial problems (they sunk a lot of money into Uru Live) so I fear Myst V might be a bit watered down to produce better Sales figures... :(

I think you guys are crazy. Myst III and Myst IV won awards out the wazoo, and most Myst fans were pleased with the games. I thought that Myst III was good at first, then it got really awesome. Myst IV started out awesome and stayed that way throughout the entire game. Both games had mind-f***ing puzzles like the first two Myst games, and both had amazing worlds to look at and explore. Also Myst III and IV both had pretty good stories IMO. Even if Myst V is half as good a game as Myst IV I think I'd still be happy.

Gameplay footage. I'm still amazed every time I play it.

Also, here is a video I put together in about 10 mins for those of you who are wondering what the Myst V Demo is like. Sorry about the compression and crappy framerate. (Maximum Graphics Settings + Fraps = Rape)

Myst 3 is what made me hate the series.

It had no story. No substance. It was just a framework for an extremely flimsy excuse to have puzzles. Maybe it would have passed back when MYST was new - maybe. But for a modern game, especially one following immediately after the sheer puzzle-based orgasmic bliss that was Riven?

There are no excuses.

Agreed 100%. Myst 3 had no sense of urgency, no real sense of danger, or anything. Hell, in Riven, there were like 4 different endings, including you dieing :p

Riven was the best game by Cyan. Once Cyan gave rights to Ubisoft for it to make Myst games, it went downhill a LOT. I can only hope Myst 5 does not suffer the same fate.

SAJN, if there's one thing you need to learn, it's that people are allowed to not like a game you do love. Same with movies. Just because someone doesn't like Myst 3 doesn't mean that they're somehow wrong or stupid or anything. It just means they don't like Myst 3.

Dj, I just don't understand why you POSTED IN THIS THREAD if you hate the game as you do. You're doing nothing but aggravating others and trolling.

I personally love the Myst series (I missed #4, sadly :() and can't wait for this one. The music in that video SAJN made brings back wonderful memories of the first one. :D

And yes I agree, Riven had a real sense of urgency and awesomeness, and the ending(s) were very scary.

Is there only a mac version?

Yeah DJ, you're just being a troll. If you don't like the game, post something constructive or don't post at all.

Actually there ia PC version of the demo out as well. I am downloading it right now.

As for Myst 3 & 4, If anybody were to ask, I would say that they had good graphics, some of the graphics in myst 4 were downright awesome.

As for the puzzles in 3 & 4, If you though those were Mind F***s... I pity you, I really do.

What made the puzzles in Riven so great was that in many cases they required you look for a bigger picture and to take hints and evidence from many subtle clues. In Myst 3 & 4 the puzzles were all very simple (even if they took a lot to solve, their premise was simple) and require very little deep reasoning.

As for all the awards that Myst 3 & 4 won, you are right about that, but I could never figure it out. Anyway, those are just my 2 cents worth as an avid Myst fan.

I mean, I'll agree Riven was the best Myst, but I still think that it would be impossible to reach everyones expectations for Myst III. Maybe the reason I enjoyed Myst III so much was because I forgot it was even being released >.<.

What really helps is having an older brother and dad who are also into the game and willing to help out. And a notepad is infinitely useful, to take notes on clues, much better than having to remember all that junk. ;)

Clues to what? I was so freaking lost in that game. My mom played, but she was never around when I played. I remember a tunnel with a bunch of dials, a big tower surrounded by water, a space ship, a time machine, and well. *shudders* Those things hurt my brain, and yet I beat Starship Titanic.
