Windows 95 is 10 years old today!

I installed it on an old 486 that I had lying around, just for nostalgia's sake. It brought back a lot of memories, such as driver problems and getting my soundcard and mouse scroll wheel to work, back when scroll wheels first came out.

Anyways, post your windows 95 stories!

I remember having some of the later versions installed on my P166MMX around 1998... I didn't notice difference between it and W98 for some time. Anyhow, it seemed like a nice change from W3.11

Though I wouldn't install it again.

Last time I used it was in 1998 too.

My first win95 pc was a Pentium 75MHz (first socket 7 baby) and I had the Jedi Knight demo on a CD that came with some gaming magazine. I'm surprised it even ran on that old POS.

Hmm, it wasn't my first OS, it wasn't my first windows OS either. However, I played JK, Baldur's Gate, and Diablo on it. Good times.

I had it on a 486 laptop. Man, it was an amazing thing after 3.11.

She was trying to sign up for e-mail.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

I remember first getting Windows 95 and it wouldn't even install!. It hung up around disk #5 I think. Yeah, I got the 3.5" floppy version. We only had a laptop with no CDROM. And it was a birthday present too! My despise of the Windows 9X series was started from the get go.

Fake edit: It turns out that despite recommendations 4MB of RAM was NOT sufficient. We had to get 8 MB for it to work.

Windows 95, the Windows that set the precedent of crappy Microsoft software...

Seriously, how do you go from the awesomeness that is Windows 3.11 to Windows 95.

Someone started drinking on the job, or something.

I still use Windows 3.1, on my laptop.

I love how when you install XP it says it's the fastest booting Windows OS. Such a lie, since my 368 (or 486) laptop boots up in about 10 seconds, while this AMD 64 3000+ takes at least 30 seconds.

Same here.

The computer we got when I was in 8th grade had 95 on it. Prior to that, we had an old computer my dad brought home from work with 3.11. I liked the new rig a lot better because it had a 2 MB video card. It was the **** back then.

The tech guy gave her instructions on what to do as he was on the telephone at the time, and she had to go into the network and type in some password to create the account. Upon entering the network, she stopped following the instructions and ended up pretty much erasing and crashing it.

She blamed him and he got in trouble.

I have Windows 95 running on my old 386 at home. I had 3.1, but the hard drive fried and I had to replace it. Just so happens that I found one (80 MB I think) with Windows 95 pre-installed. I still have my old 3.1 disks, and I've been meaning to put it back, as the SoundBlaster card I have in the machine absolutely hates 95. However, considering that this machine is some 230 miles away at home, and I don't ever use it, it's been serving as a desk decoration. Though whenever I get the urge to play the original Wing Commander, or X-Wing, I'll fix it up again.

Hah, same here.

First computer I ever owned was a 386 with Windows 3.1. Then in grade 8, parents bought me a IBM Aptiva (P166, 32MB RAM, 6GB HDD, generic 2d video card) with Win95 on it.

The other day I found a "Christmas wish-list" from a long time ago. I wanted a 386 because my 286 was getting slow.

This thread is now outdated, because it's 10 years and one day :P

'95 was my family's 2nd computer, the first being an old (and incredibly cool at the time to me) IBM running 3.11. Then about 3 years ago my mom bought me MoH:AA and it didn't work..omfg. So I got a new POS (I'm on it right now) and we upgraded to Windows 98.

the '95 had a 233mhz proccessor I think I figured out, 4 gig hardrive (we JUST upgraded that last month, and jeeze my mom needed it, she's doing her digital pictures on it) and 256 megs of some old RAM type, I assume it's SD.
I had a blog. It sucked.
