I went and saw Red Eye tonight; it had the Doom trailer. Looks pretty good on the big screen; but it's hard to tell at this point whether it will be a good movie or not.

It very well may not be a good movie. But it certainly will be crazy, and entertaining.

Why was the guy sitting in front of the computer with only his pants on? Err...

Anyway, I hope they don't overdo the FPS perspective. It looks interesting from that point of view, but, after awhile, probably it would become a boring camera angle.

I love the voice-over: "Around every corner... behind every door... doom is waiting". They obviously played Doom 3.

The FPS thing is VERY cool.

And did I see a glimpse of the BFG? I sure hope so.
"Jayne, this is something the Captain has to do for himself"

"N-No it's not!"

"Oh."

That's what they based the movie on.

That's the first time in a while that when I watched the trailer I just sat and kinda said to myself "hehehe... cool."

I'm definitely seeing this movie, if for no other reason than the first person action.
2005-08-25, 9:38 PM #11

yeah, the bfg is in there.

haha he was on the daily show a long while ago and they talked about the doom movie and he said he was excited that he gets to use the BFG, and he's like "and we all know what BFG stands for" and suprisingly a lot of people laughed and then he goes "of course, the bio force gun" haha.

im gonna love this movie.

and... can you say...

OMG YES! PINKY DEAMON VS. CHAINSAW.

(pinky deamon on wheels, but yeah)

Wait, what? Is that what it actually stands for, or is he an idiot?
DO NOT WANT.

He was making a joke.
Think while it's still legal.
2005-08-25, 10:06 PM #17
he was making a joke, but wasnt there a thing in doom3 where there was a video demonstrating it, and they called it the bioforce gun? i mean i know what the meant in doom, but i think they played the joke out in doom3. unless you guys didnt stop for that, i think you had to wait for the movie to play on this one monitor.

Hmmm... maybe it's like how the MOAB (Massive Ordinance Air-Burst) is more commonly known as Mother Of All Bombs

I'm sorry, but the first-person sequence looks incredibly stupid. maybe its just the copy of the trailer i watched, but everything looks so fake and plasticy (even moreso than the game itself). It actually looked like a made-for-TV-movie. Hopefully it will look a lot better in the theater.

As long as Uwe Boll isn't making it, it has the possiblility of being good by the slimmest of margins.
2005-08-26, 1:28 AM #22
the FPS looks retarded.. just like house of the dead... it also has the ignorant feel to it that the Resident Evil movies had to them. Everything looks plastic and doesn't look like it is set in a very realistic environment... so prepare for slowed down shots and bad CG.. worse graphics than Doom 3.

Jurassic Park was awesome, although the book was immensely better.

Especially in the case of The Lost World.

Except they've said form the very beginning, these are not creatures form hell.

They also said it wouldn't be on Mars from the beginning. :p

I started laughing when I saw the chainsaw.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

How can people complain about bad cgi when most of the creature effects are practical? (practical means a guy in a rubber suit)

The man doing the creature effects is Stan Winston. If you don't know who Stan Winston is, go watch The Terminator series, Predator, and Aliens. That is who Stan Winston is. Stop saying the creatures look bad. That's not possible.

I also hate it when people complain about "no hell? WTF??" just because we don't see hell in the trailers. Do you want to see everything that happens in the trailer? That would be the same as saying "omg it's so lame that we don't see if the Rock lives or dies in the trailer."

And for the last time, the Rock is not the main character. Karl Urban is.

I'm not sure if anyone even mentioned any of this stuff yet, but it's always inevitable when discussing this movie.

This thread is just like a doom3 thread.

There's the "omg dark plastic lolz" group.
There's the "it's meant to be that way, I like it" group
And the "It might be good, it might suck, I'll try it out" group

Knock me up for the third one. You should also add a poll with usernames so I can laugh at everyone else. (I'm willing to bet that people would vote for the same category if there were a doom3 poll & movie poll)

But you can clearly see it's on Mars now. Hell still has nothing to do with it. They aren't even working on teleporters!

Just because they said they're working on the human genome doesn't mean teleporters are not involved.

What exactly did the human genome have to do with anything in DooM?

You know... come to think of it... I can't remember ANY of the plot in DooM 3.

Cool Matty, its those things you find whenever you like looked on the computers, the files or whatever from dead scientists?
I can't think of anything to put here right now.
2005-08-26, 7:12 PM #39
Yeah I found it to be sort of like Resident Evil in that regard. You can buzz through the game and enjoy it and there's some bits of story and such... But unless you really get into all the files and such, you don't get much enjoyment out of it.

I'm sorry.. I guess the people at Universal forgot that a movie centred around demons on Mars, with big guns shooting things we only dream of, had to have some sense of realistic-ness to it..
