I could have told you that. The Brothers Grimm just wrote fairy tales. They didn't enact them.
2005-08-28, 1:13 PM #8
They didn't write them, they collected them from housewives and such.

And I saw the movie, I liked it. It wasn't LOTR, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. It reminded me of the old disney movies, slightly cheesy, but enjoyable and not too voer-the top, (In other words it didn't look as bad as, say, thunderbirds or spy kids, or something.)
I liked matt damon's character's wit. It was a a good driver for the movie.

To be honest, I enjoyed this movie like I enjoyed movies as a child. I didn't go in looking to analyze character development, or originality, just to enjoy the movie.

Taking it as such, the movie was very fun and entertaining.

I'd give it a 3.5/5 stars.

Well , it's getting some awful reviews

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/brothers_grimm/

but personally I don't trust critics, especially after a bunch of them gave Sin City horrible reviews just because they didn't like all the violence.

I think a lot of it is as well, people don't like Gilliams style. Gilliam likes to get things done cheap and easy, but at the same time good looking and fun. Gilliam is a mastermind. That is all.

I love on the Rotten Tomatoes site, the review that simply quotes the word "Grim".

I won't judge yet though, I'd probably watch it if I had a chance.

To the directors credit, it took me about half the length of the movie to realize I wasn't enjoying it. From that point on I couldn't wait for it to be over. I really didn't like it at all. It had its moments, such as the scene where the horse swallows the girl, but other than that the movie was not good at all.

I generally don't trust critics, either. I especially dislike the rottentomatoes site and I only ever visit it when someone links to it here. I liked Sin City but I think it fair to say it wasn't critically a good movie. It was actually probably pretty bad. I don't know where critics fell on Daredevil but I also like that movie. Same with Fantastic Four. Whatever. This film never appealed to me. For no other reason than I simply don't care.

I already said I dislike that site. I would go sa far as to say I hate it. A quick skim through the reviews at a real movie review resource, mrqe.com, leads me to believe that the real average of reviews is more like somewhere between mediocre to good. Like I said, I like the move. It's probably just technically not a very good movie.

I'm not sure about this movie. It's one of those that you leave the theater not knowing whether it was good or not. I think they added some unnecessary gore that was just too random for my tastes. It's just one of those strange movies that isn't good, yet isn't bad...

I was about to post that. I could remember the movie being largely hailed as good.

I think what it comes down to in the end is "was it worth my time?"
2005-08-28, 9:45 PM #20
I saw it.

It wasn't bad, wasn't great.

You'd have to make your own decision about it.
