I'm getting down with the system tommorow...

Okay, I've never really been to a concert like this (where I actually got the most awesome tickets ever...)

\../_:)_\../

and I know a lot of massassians go to a lot more concerts than me, so I was wondering when should I leave to get my awesomeness reserved? They are floor tickets so if I don't get there early enough I worry my awesome tickets will become just okay :-p The concert is at 7:00pm and I live about an hour away from where they are playing.

I guess Monoxide isn't going...

Must be really loud at the front, I'd be happier near the back of the standing stuff. :)

I was at a Meat Loaf concert a few weekends back. Here is a drawing of my seats, in the order I possessed them:

stage seats aisle stadium seating

I hope that works.
[edit - okay, that didn't work at all.]

Basically, what happened is we got there pretty early, and our usher told us to sit in #1. So we sat there. We talked to her a lot, and more people came in. Then this asian family came in and said we were in their seats. Turns out, usher read our tickets wrong and we were in seat #2.

Well, she felt bad, so while the opening band was playing, she ran down and found some unclaimed tickets at the box office. So then she gave them to us, and we moved to seat #3.

It ruled. so. hard.

Basically, we went from 200 feet from the stage, to about 500, to about 10.

Get there early, Get up front. You're gonna have to fight to keep your spot at the front of the crowd, but that's half the fun. At a SoaD concert, I'd recommend wearing only clothes that you don't mind getting shreded, or lost completely. Also, if you wear glasses, I recommend leaving them at home or wearing a strap (as if you weren't feeling self-conscious enough in glasses at a rock concert [or not]).

If you want to save your good spot at the front, you're going to have to save it through the opening band(s) as well. Don't know who's opening for them so it may or may not suck.

You can get up front once the main show has started, but it's difficult or impossible to do if you're scared to push people around.

I pretty much need to wear my glasses :p But I have two of the same pair, so if one breaks I won't get that angry. I was going to wear my SoaD shirt but it's so small now. I got the shirt almost three years ago, and now it doesn't fit. Oh well. I'm just going to wear whatever is comfortable, I don't plan on getting trashed. Half the people I talked to told me to relax and not worry. They said the crowd is more rowdy in the middle of the pit, they said not to worry about the front as much. Half the other people said "YOU WILL DIE A HORRIBLE DEATH!" Also Mars Volta is playing...I've heard good things and bad things, but I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it no matter who's opening. Also, I'm a 6 foot 5 inch, 250 lb giant. I'm not afraid to push people around :D

TMV would be the only reason I'd go to the show. I love SoaD but I don't like their newest album enough to pay a couple hundred to go to their show (which is probably what they'd be playing/promoting).

I saw Slayer on the front row. with In Flames and Soulfly.

Until you've seen a Slayer moshpit, you haven't lived. I can safely say i lost about 10 pounds in that pit :p

You're good to go then. It is most roudy in a mosh pit, but at the front there's alot of backwards pressure since everyone else wants up there. Mars Volta is really good, so you should be well entertained through-out.

And you're plenty big, noone will mess with you hehe. Enjoy!!

Aww that sucks, all the people line up as they arrive, then the guards let all the people with floor tickets in at once (or so I hear.) So I guess I need to break some necks! BRING IT MOFO's!

As do I. I also want to see Judas Priest again. They *always* play electric eye first and do it amazingly well.

Hehe, I've seen SoaD twice now, once at Brixton Academy and then again at the Reading Festival in the open air. Never understood the big deal about being as close as possible, sure you don't want to be so far away the look like ants but being crushed is no fun either. Drop back a bit, get into a pit and bump around and enjoy yourself!
Circle pits are liable to be fairly big at a SoaD gig too; at Reading we started creating huge dust clouds from pounding feet :D
2005-08-27, 4:41 PM #20
What, exactly, is a mosh pit and what is so undesirable about them? I've never been to a concert.
2005-08-27, 4:52 PM #21
People jump and slam into each other. I expect it's undesirable because unwilling participants can get their teeth knocked out.

By the way, I was backstage like 30 feet from the Newsboys. If anyone cares about the Newsboys here.

2005-08-27, 6:09 PM #22
Why do they do that? Are they stupid? I like teeth.
2005-08-27, 6:58 PM #23
Yeah, teeth are pretty cool.
2005-08-27, 7:12 PM #24
Here's a review of the concert. The Mars Volta is basically famous for 15 minute guitar solos, which is stupid (and boring/tedious). It sounds like the merch is ridiculously priced ($30 for a shirt?! WTF?!). It also looks like the crowd consists purely of idiots.

Whatever... I'll pass.

Judging music and concerts on a written review is ****ing retarded. (.)

That's like judging a book by it's cover art, or a painting by the canvas, or an album by a review.

What? Did you even read that link? It's not even a critique... it reviews information on the show and what to expect at the concert. Those things I said are what I think, not the writer on that site. Com' on, give me a little credit.

I love TMV's solos. They remind me of a psychadelia on Floyd's level. But yeah, 30 dollars for a shirt is ridiculous.

I've met and chatted with the Newsboys on multiple occassions. They always come up to "Spirit Song" concert stuff at our amusement park. Since I work attendance and tech management, I have a full access pass.

I've met the Newsboys producer Steve Taylor
he's a cool dude
I got to listen to Thrive before it came out
