So I was drinking heavily last night...

...because my hard drive stopped working. My computer basically tries to start it up, then it makes a sad, sad little beep, then just stops. This is all before windows even begins to load.

Luckily I backed up everything of mine 4ish months ago, but anything recent is gone. Which includes an animation I was supposed to get paid for.

Umm...I'm not really sure what this is all about. You guys should just feel bad for me and give me your money or something. Thank you.

PS. The drink that I made last night was amazing. I was able to put 4 shots of 100 proof vodka in it and I still couldn't taste the alcohol.

Check your video card. Either its come unseated, or its fried.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

For some reason my computer is working now? I'm posting from it. Crazy.

Anyway, at least if it dies now I have everything backed up. I'm pretty happy now.

Maybe it didn't die and you just needed an excuse to drink? :p

Every beep means something. Just because you computer won't start doesn't mean you should run and blame your hard drive. Like GBK said, it was probably your video card.

Your motherboard manual should have a list of what all the beeps mean.

You got smashed because your computer wouldn't work?

Loser.

Last night I had some rum, and then proceded to tell stories about morning erections.

I wasn't drunk, though.

While troubleshooting, my roommate and I booted linux up on an extra linux CD he had lying around. It started up just fine, but with a million drive errors. And I could't access the hard drive at all. So I knew that my graphics card, motherboard, and ram were all working just fine.

This doesn't relate directly to your problem at all, but other people might find this useful:

For anyone who's ever deleted something accidentally, or formatted their hard drive or come under certain types of data corruption, there's R-Studio. I deleted partitions, formatted my hard drive, and was still able to recover everything that was on it. Go me! :D

only $50.

Of course, that was all after finding out my problem could've been solved much more easily. :(
