I'm ignorant of video formats

What video format provides the best compresssion without loss of visual or audio quality?

I have a 9.2 second avi file that takes up 212MB. That's insane. The images that make up the video only amount to 722KB, and the audio is only 1.2 MB. How in the hell does that add up to 212 MB?!

Genesis 22:2-5 - And God said unto Abraham "You must kill your son, Isaac." And Abraham said "What? I can't hear you! You'll have to speak into the microphone." And God said "Check, check, check, check. Jerry, can you pull the high end out. I'm getting some hiss up here."

How big is the capture? How great of quality is it too? If you have only 9.2 seconds and it's 212 MB in size then you must have a large display. Or your capture is prestine quality.

Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

It's 640x480, same as the images used to complie it.
And I made a mistake. The images were from a smaller compilation. I don't know where the originals are. But theres 240 frames, if that helps.

Weeooo! I changed the codec to Cinipack and the size dropped to 6.784MB, and plays *much* smoother. Can I do better? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Try Divx or XVID or any other MPEG4 format.

You can also compress your audio: I usually use MP3.

I'll try those.
Here's what I've got:
Cinipack - 6.62MB - excellent quality
Indeo Video v5.04 - 5.19MB - slightly reduced quality
Intel Indeo - 4.91MB - bad coloration, edges way too sharp, doesn't play as smoothly.
Microsoft Video 1 - 18.3MB - color loss, doesn't play as smoothly.

That seems to be all the compression codecs I have installed. :-\
