Strange, you'd think down here in Texas, where things are invariably bigger, I would see more huge insects, but the biggest insect I've seen was a number of years ago: a grasshoper, about 4 inches long. More recently my best friend's mom killed a gigantic spider on their doorstep. Looked like a tarantula to me, but it was HUGE, even curled up in ball after being killed.
