What was the insult from Romeo and Juliet? "I bite my thumb at thee" or something along those lines?

/me bites thumb at RIAA.

I'm not buying a full CD if I only like one song.

Kazaa Lite works best for my needs.

Then you should meet "ITunes". Just buy your one song for 99 cents. Even most people can afford that. The only downside is that it downloads into a .aiff file, which you then would have to burn to a CD, then rip as a mp3 if you want to make it an mp3 file.

There are also plenty of other sites, that just offer singles. BuyMusic.com is one of them.

Are those special .aiff files?
Because the codec I checked accepts aiff as input files

Actually, it is illegal here too, no matter what you tell yourself. Just because the Finnish authorities currently are not allowed to look or track what you are downloading/trafficing across the internet or prosecute you on such evidence doesn't mean that it is legal. They can't arrest you for it, they can't charge you for sharing/copying protected media with evidence gathered by observing what you do on the internet due to legal privacy restrictions. If they were to search your house with a warrant though (for something else), and they find your PC running a filesharing program downloading dozens of rips at a time, I'm sure that they could seize your computer and fine you. Just like they can fine you for peddling pirated media on the streets.

A few years ago, the authorities weren't even allowed to tap your cell-phone conversations. That changed, and so will this eventually once/if corporations start whining loud enough.

Oh, and uh... Support your local independent chain-free record store, or something.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

i don't know what they're going to do about the southeast asian pirates in china and korea and stuff. There econmies are such a big part from pirated software they won't be shutting them down anytime soon.

That's true, but the headers of the subsequent .m4a files have all the information the original .m4p files did. Meaning, your name is still linked to the file.

Shareaza.
It takes a while to get connected to the right servers, so it's not good if you want something right there and then, but it's ideal for leaving large files going overnight.

I use iTunes. In my opinion it's much better than Winamp. Last I heard however, you could download in formats other than AAC if you wanted.

DrkJedi82: You must have really REALLY good hearing, becuase considering how many times I've burned a CD and then ripped it again, I've NEVER, EVER, heard an audible decrease in quality. Maybe after doing it 10+ times you might, but I've never heard it.

I think Jim is right. My brother bought his Trans-Siberian Orchestra CD of ITunes, burned it to a CD, then ripped it, and even ripping it at around 256 I was still able to notice the decrease in quality.
