Ok.. after recently being shafted by 2 web hosts, i've decided that I'm not the best judge of where to buy my web space from.. so what hosts do you all use? Preferably i'm looking for one with reasonable tech support and up to date servers.

That's who I've got as well, they're good, just don't try to use the whole 6gb they give you. Every time I try to upload something big it says I'm out of space. Also the email accounts sorta suck, I don't get half the messages people send.

On second thought, they aren't that good, get someone else. :p

We have godaddy hosting at work, and everything works as it should. I don't think we get a lot of space though.

I use filefarmer for file storing, image hosting, and for my website (although I'm on a free account, so I don't get a domain name for it). The only problem I've had is that their entire file management pages crapped out for some reason, and the had to completely rewrite/rebuild it. Didn't affect my files, just my being able to log in.

That's not something you'd expect to happen all the time, though. I also hate that everything there is case-sensitive.

They are very good, and every now and then offer 6 months free + domain name, or something to that extent. When they launched they offered 3 years free, no strings attached.

They were the ones who shafted me, well .co.uk anyway. They misadvertised their VAT charges, and despite cancelling after just 4 days, I haven't seen a whiff of my money, even though they claim to have a 60-day money-back guarantee.

I'm considering moving to a new host sometime, but most of the places I'm finding are american, is there any cheap reliable host that deal in Canadian dollars?

For $8 a month: 1 gig space, 20 gigs transfer
For $10 a month: 20 gigs space, Unlimited transfer

It sounds too good to be true, but it is true. We have the $10 a month plan and it runs fast and is worth it (cause we use more than 20 gigs transfer a month).

http://forums.massassi.net/vb3/showthread.php?t=35614 <---cough cough :D :D

And just for the folk at Massassi, I am doing this to make sure that there are no worries.

And since you've had issues with other companies, this might appeal to you.

Basically, I don't ask you to pay a dime until the website is running to your 100% satisfaction. After it's fully up, you subscribe to a 1 month payment via paypal, which does not charge you until the END of the month. So if you find that my server starts sucking for no reason, and I don't fix it, you just let me know, and you won't pay a dime. (Or you can cancel the subscription yourself before the month is up.)

So every month you get charged for the previous month, rather than ahead of time. You might like this due to your issues with other companies.

Also, in terms of up-to-date:

My server runs the latest PHP4 version, as well as the latest Cpanel, MySQL4.0, and Apache1 software. All of it is very secure, and I update any software requiring it daily.
