I just need to know if my heatsink/fan from my athlon xp will work on an athlon 64.

If it were me I wouldn't risk it. This is why I don't buy OEM processors.

If you buy a new processor, it should come with a new fan and heatsink. The last one I bought did.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Depends on if you got a really good HSF right now. If it's the stock one, hell no. Otherwise, you MIGHT be able to.

My opinion? Don't risk it. Get a new one.

However, keep in mind, if you get the AMD64 in the box (not OEM, but the retail chip), it already comes with a decent heatsink and fan.
