today i got 2 computers for $1

one is a 486 the other is probably also a 486...

one of them just had to be a compaq... first my mom buys a compaq... our first computer... then after a few years my sister gives us her old computer ALSO A FRIGGIN COMPAQ... then when my mom buys a laptop... COMPAQ... when i get the money for a new computer IT WILL NOT BE A COMPAQ i will forcefully break the compaq curse (and then my computer will explode forcing me to go back to a compaq)

anyway... the stupid thing i did today was carry those computers to my house in the heat... i should have went home and had someone drive to the rummage sale so i could get them home that way...

oh well i still need a new can of air to finish blowing the dust out of the air vents on the compaq and either a "new" keyboard or an adapter for the other one... so both are currently untested (also i don't want to dig out my extra monitor right now

486s are *EXTREMELY* useful. Just because they wont run any recent version of Windows doesnt mean you throw them out. I would love to get my hands of one of those...I need a new router... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

The company I work for sells 486 servers for over $2000 a pop. They are specialty OS/2 servers. They sell tons of them. 486s make great servers, routers, firewalls, you name it. True, they wouldnt work as a desktop, but once you put a decent light-weight OS on them, they run great.

...

...Oh, wait, these are Compaqs... Pitch them.

I remember at the thrift shop a few weeks back I saw an Atari with 30 games for 10 bucks...but my wallet was empty. Then when I went back to buy it, some guy bought it 5 mins before I got there. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

I never get the good deals :P

[http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] I miss my commodore 64. I had the most fun on that. But my dad tossed them a while ago [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] Years ago. I remember I had a book of programs, and every night I'd copy some code and make a program. I remember once I typed out over 3,000 lines to make a simple piano program! I had over 100 discs. Where in the world is carmen sandiago. I had some weird Mario, where you got pineapples as one of the power ups, koopa was a dragon..I think it was like the original beta mario or something. I had paintbrush war thingy, it was like tron, but with paint brushes. I remember Zork came standard or something. I had some game that I used to have SO much fun with. I wish I could remember the game [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif] You got to do things for your grandma and she would give you prizes and candy!!! OMG, anyone who finds out what game that is wins a cookie..and I had a bug spray game..and *snipe*

Bottom line, the old stuff brings back so many memories. *sigh* I wish I was a little boy again.

Dude! You're getting a Compaq! THUNK.
Duuuuude.... Compaqqqq..... SCHPLUT.

I used t' have a Commodore 600. It was great, because I only ever had two legit games - the rest were copied using the Amiga disk copy software. I had a lot of games on that beast... and now I've got an emulator of it!

well the compaq is a 486... i already knew that... running Windows 3.1

the other has a 133MHz Pentium 1, 32MB RAM, ATI something video card, 1.18GB HD almost 450MB free space... running Windows 98... once i get the soundcard working i'm installing Quake on it... i did install Wolfenstein 3D since it was right next to where i had it setup when i was testing them

as you can guess the one running 98 takes forever to start up... i'll probably just skip windows anyway and go straight to DOS
