Miyazaki II Died :(

He was doing fine until one day he seemed to be breathing a bit heavy, so I cleaned out his tank and put him back in it...But then he kept lifting up his sea-plant-thing and getting caught in it, so I took it out. For a while after that he just sat at the bottom of the tank. If I tapped the tank he'd swim around for a bit, but go back to the bottom. I figured that he just had no where else to stay. I started to notice he was losing his color and he was laying on his side. He looked bloated and fat, but I never over fed him. Now I just went to feed him about 5 mins ago and he wasn't moving. So I flicked the tank and pushed him with a stick and he just didn't move. :( I feel really bad that he suffered the last month or so of his life. I mean, his tank was as clean as can be, he was fed every day and life was good, but for some reason he kept getting worse. He was a beta fish and he was maybe a year old or a bit less.

I know it's just a fish, but now I'm sad. I hate when things die.

We used to have a bunch of fish. We had a Jack Demsy and a Plutasamus for about 5 years until the Plut. died. And because those two fish had been together so long the Jack died a while later. And then we had a goldfish that would. not. die. but it did.. after 3 months

I've had a lot of beta fish. My oldest one who was nearing the two year mark, died randomly one day. One thing that might make you feel better, if he was store bought, he probably was probably already a year or so old. They sell the fish older because they get prettier as they age. If you really want, I could probably tell you what he died from. Sometimes, even with the best care, you can't do anything for them. My Marla did that last year. :(

Emma Burns died last year, and sounds like he was acting simlar to your fish. only emma turned on his side sometimes and went catatonic till i taped the tank for most of his life. he problly didnt liek the car rides between collage and home too much either (stress on him). he eventully wouldnt swim to the bottom of the tank anymore and i decided to flush him before he died in the next days that followed. i didnt want to see him suffer anymore.
Laughing at my spelling herts my feelings. Well laughing is fine actully, but posting about it is not.

I remember from many years back that my father bought a fish that looked like a very small shark (except that it had red fins, but otherwise it was gray). And it chased all the other fishes that were smaller than it (most of them in the tank) relentlessly, until the other fishes started to die out of exhaustion. Well, it was cruel but very interesting. I liked that fish a lot.

As utterly cruel as that is, that fish is awesome.

I have to feel for SAJN here. I hate it when you have to part with pets, dead or alive. It's probably the worst feeling in the world, next to being removed from a direct family member.

I wonder how long a healthy, normal goldfish could survive once it's been flushed?

That's sad. Do you think the second one died because it was lonely?

I believe that the memory of a goldfish lasts about 3 seconds.

So, instead of killing him swifty or dieing naturally, you flush the thing down a toilet, and expect it not to suffer anymore?

Not very long, I imagine. It's probably hard to swim around in mounds of poop. :o

Well, maybe not "mounds," but the water is particularly thick down there. Errrr... not that I would know.
