So I bought a shower head and...

It's one of those cheap plastic ones. It has a very disgusting smell, sort of like burned plastic. Really intense. Is that normal and/or a potential minor health hazard?

Ain't normal. Take it back.

However, there really isn't anything wrong with the cheapos except they break very easily and don't last very long.

It would be worth it to spend the extra $10 and get one that's metal, or if you're enviromentally conscious, you can get a slo-flo head that limits water waste.

Be sure and get some teflon tape to wrap around the threads before you put the shower head on to stop leaks.

You should have gotten the ones where you can take ladies into the shower with you and *cough* use the showerhead in provocative ways

Oh god, get over it. You're subjected to a lot more descriptive and down-right blatent things when you watch regular cable tv.

It still was uncalled for, but to deter this from becoming a flamewar, I'd say get one of those that are extendable.

Mine's plastic, but it's not cheap. Has multiple spray type selection. Only leaked once, and I don't really know why. I just took it off and put it back on, and it was fine.

Cable tv doesnt have the same rules as massassi though.

I have a plasticy showerhead without the toxic fumes feature.

If you end up getting a metal one make sure it's a good one. Cheap crappy metal shower heads are much worse then cheap crappy plastic shower heads.

You might need new skin afterwards, however.

If you buy a metal showerhead, don't drop it. i did that once and it cracked the tile on my shower floor. It took days to cut the old tile out, find new tile, mortar it in, and re-grout it.

That's tile... that probably wouldn't happen with a fiberglass shower.
No sig.
