If I'm thinking of the right episode, his looked more like a flexible metallic thing, and the image was more holographic than anything else, but yeah. =P

The episode is correct (and the best one, if I might opine a smidge).

Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

There was somehting like that on Earth: Final Conflict too.
There is some neat stuff being developed now. For example, flexible screens are being developed that require no exectricity to maintain the image, only to change it.
