My dad has a colleague from a previous company over today. He's interested in possibly hiring this guy to work with him again at his new company (not his, he doesn't own it, you know what I mean). They just arrived from the airport about 5 minutes ago. Anyway, this fellow is British, and may I say, his accent is awesome. Liek, teh awesome.

I'm not sure what it is. The stereotypical British accent is just so errr... charming? Y'know Ruthy et. al., if you guys ever come to America (or China) the women are gonna love you for your voice before they even look at you.

Anyway, describe encounters with people with awesome accents! Or something to that effect. What accents are the "best"? Strangest? Whatever.

When I went over to Finland, people reacted strangely to my accent, but in a good way.

In fact, Sami, (morpheus of massassi) can speak english brilliantly and can even pull of a london accent, and the two of us went around a finnish rock festival talking in english and getting free booze and cigarettes.

This is probably the ONLY example where being english/scottish has its advantages.

(on a side note, the accent of the chav, aka the scummy teenage lower class of britain, sounds awful. Americans would be sourly dissapointed with the voices of those losers. )

Something about the irish accent drives me wild. Whenever I hear an irish woman speak (which is kinda rare unfortunately) it just puts me in a good mood for the whole day.
I dunno why that it is, but I love it.

I've met a Brit, a French girl, a Haitian Frenchy, and some Italians, the French girl was the hottest but the Brit guy had the best accent.

Meh. I prefer an American accent, myself. Less likelihood of communication problems.

Not to say I don't like foreign accents, of course. But I prefer your typical Midwestern accent (and, no, it is not Ozark hick).

I remember the first time I went to London, I was probabaly about 11 and was at that humungus toy store you guys have.
I was watching this guy demonstrate a magic trick that was part of a kit they sold, and I asked (Because I was in a foreign country, I didn't know how things worked, and I was 11) if the directions came in english. He smirked at me, and told me they "Came in American, if that's what I was asking." and then he, and all the british kids laughed at me..

It made me sad. :(

This Scottish chick I used to work with came in with a cold and a deep and throaty voice once. I spent the entire day bent forward at the waist and making excuses not to stand up.

I agree. A dear friend of mine, (who died only 2 weeks ago :( ) had an irish accent, so soft and beautiful. Not only her voice, but SHE herself was reknowned for being one of the most stunning girls at university.

And when she spoke, men would just melt into a jibbering mess, including myself :(

Correction, scummy lower class of England. We have no Chavs, only Neds.

And myself and some mates were talking about this kinda thing at lunch today. If we try to pull off english accents its Snooty butler, "Freshen yer drink guvnah", or Brummie. Or in my case, lancaster.
nope.

Chavs sux.

To me, I have no discernable accent. I sound like a prat, though.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.
