I got in a car accident today.

Well, my mom and I are driving, we drive up our hill, turn and we are only going about 20 - 25 mph. .5 seconds later I look down and my hands are covered in blood. I don't remember crashing, I just remember talking, then blood. My mom was just kind of lying there, and I was looking for the cell phone, but at the same time, i was looking for napkins to put on my face. I was bleeding like a faucet. My entire face, pants, hands, were all red. It was so weird. I don 't even recall a crash, a skid or anything. Just talking..then blood. Some people ran over, and called 9-1-1, then they gave me paper towels and i went though a good half a roll. I went to walk outside, but my door was jammed shut. The ambulance came, and for precaution put a neck brace on me. Then i stood up and walked to the ambulance. Then my mom got put on the ambulince. For some reason..I don't know why, I was totally calm. I didn't cry or anything. i wanted to make sure my mom was okay. I wasn't worried about myself, because although my face felt puffy, and I was bleeding so much, I knew I was okay. Luckily everyone is alive, but my mom's neck kind of hurts, and my entire face is swollen, and I have just about no skin left. I can't really talk, because my lips are huge. I fractured my finger..but that's about it. I was bleeding for a good 20 mins. It's been about 4 hours and I am still oozing plasma and blood like stuff.

I'm just happy my mom is okay. Thought I'd share my story.

We don't know what happened. My mom says she remembers hitting the pole, but I don't. It was like we were driving, then the very next second I see blood and an airbag, and I am saing "Mom, are you okay, don't move", and then I try to open my door and it's jammed, I look up and some neighbors were at the car. They gave me the paper towel. I think it was a mechanical thing. We werent speeding, we didnt hit anything in the road. I think a tire exploded or an axel or something just broke.
Everytime my mom looked at me she was crying, I didn't know why until I looked at myself in the mirror. My face is mostly skinless. The airbag burnt it off. But I have some cream stuff and the doctor said I'm going to be fine. My moms neck is fine, it was just whiplash..She want's to go back to work, and I want to go to school, but neither of us are in any condition. Right now I'm so groggy and tired from the Vikidin(sp?) they gave me.

That sucks, man. Car accidents are scary things. I've been in four accidents, but nothing like the one you were in. My best wishes to you and your family.

That is really creepy, about you not remembering it and all... although if I were in your place, I would probably rather not remember it since it was probably pretty scary. I'm glad everybody's okay, that really sounds rough. One of the top things I really wish never happens to me is a serious car wreck... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

It sucks, because, we went out today to get out minds off of life. A family member just died. Another is in the hospital, my grandpa has amnesia, so my dad has to give him his pills everyday..life can't get any worse. We went out today to get our minds off of all the bad things, and more bad happens.

20-25 mph did that much damage?

Yes, the car is totalled.

1.) They think it was the axel that broke
2.) They think the airbag was installed the wrong way, they said it shouldn't have burned all my skin off like that.

Any talk of getting a lawyer?
2004-05-23, 2:03 PM #13
That's what we call emotional shock. It's frequent among people who have just been in car crashes. My mom knew a guy who was in a mild accident, then got out of his car, went to a corner store, bought a chocolate bar and ate it without removing the wrapping.

Glad you're okay.

I would get lawyer post haste. If this was a newer car, I would seek some legal action against car manufacturer for allowing what seems a shoddy car onto the roadways.

Glad to see you all will make recovery.

What kind of car was it? A family friend of mine owns two generations of Volvos, and both of them suffer from broken rear axels. Luckily, their cars didn't hit anything when it broke.

Out of (big) curiosity, what brand of a car is (or was, now that it's totalled) it?
