A very good comedy anyone?
2005-09-14, 1:53 AM #1
Can anyone recommend a nice comedy to watch? Not necessarily family-friendly, black humour's just as fine. I'm late for univ ATM, so can't really expand, but all contributions are welcome - if something good (that I haven't seen) pops up, I'll go and grab it.

Oh, and by the way. I haven't seen "Napoleon Dynamite" on the assertion that it's toilet humour. Maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks.

Hannibal. I found it funny, although others didn't share my opinion.

Naplolian Dianimite isant... tolilet humor. it just belongs in most people's toilets/ JUST KIDDING! actully if you dont mind the feeling that "real life never seems to move" then it's a funny and good movie.

The Lady Killers is also good, with much situational irony (the funnyest kind). it also has a good slow pace.
Laughing at my spelling herts my feelings. Well laughing is fine actully, but posting about it is not.

I'd recommend staying away from Napoleon Dynamite. I never figured out why people thought it was funny.

As for suggestions:

-anything Monty Python
-anything by Mel Brooks (Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs)
-Wedding Crashers and The 40-Year-Old Virgin (both are still in theaters at the moment)

I couldn't find Napolean Dynamite that funny because I know it's so true. Most of the people I know who think it's funny are popular kids who have never known people like Napolean and friends.

I would recommend:
- Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (really really really immature humour, but hilarious)
- The Royal Tenenbaums (really really really dry humour. I loved it)
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (if you haven't seen it. Johnny Depp rocks)
- Any Monty Python, I guess

Um, that's it for now

I watched The Terminal last night, it's pretty damn funny at some points.

Napoleon Dynamite isnt really 'haha' funny, it's just... Funny.

For a laugh try anything from Kevin Smith: Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma.

Go watch Black Books, it too isn't a movie, but is an amazing TV series. Billy Bailey! [The voice of the whale in hitch-hikers.]
nope.

Watch the movie called "Being There"

It's a different sort of comedy. Not the type of comedy you see all the time.

I found Napolean Dynamite to be amusing simply because we had a guy living on our floor in the dorms last year who mirrored Napolean to the T.

For funny movies, I hear that the Aristocrats is in some theaters right now. We have a local theater that shows lesser known movies (The RagTag, seriously, if you're ever in Columbia, MO, it's a good place to find something to do) that has been showing it all month. I think today's the last day for it though.

Otherwise, Kevin Smith movies, Big Lebowski, Robin Hood Men in Tights, Princess Bride, etc. etc.

Yes! If only it existed.

Kung Pow and Kung Foo Hussle are different movies.
nope.
2005-09-14, 10:19 AM #26
I didn't really think Kung Fu Hustle was all that funny. The previews were hilarious, but the movie was just kind of boring. It was too serious for me in too many parts.

Meh, I don't know. The Mr. Creosote sketch was nauseating, and the transplant sketch was just disturbing.

I find myself agreeing with Page here, the Meaning of Life is easily the weakest of the Python movies, and with it's sketch-show format you're better off watching Flying Circus.

Hence the R rating. It's still good. The transplant sketch was hilarious, but I agree on the Mr. Creosote.
