w00tage! It's fun to allready "own" the game. It makes you feel like you're getting something for free.

Is there a point to preloading it? It's not playable until a certain date.

Finished preloading. It will probably jump to 80% after you click preload as it is sharing the HL:2, CS:S, and HL2:DM resources.

And yes, you preload so on the 26th you can play it instantly without having to download. Also helps the bandwith cause if they just released it on the 26th - it'd go extremely slow.
2005-09-14, 7:12 PM #15
Yeah, I'm at 81.9 % -_-.

I'll just go out and buy the damn thing. I've got the moolah.
2005-09-14, 7:18 PM #17
I've got DoD:S in the list of games that are 'coming soon' above 'my games', and it's not grayed out. Does that mean it's preloaded? Because I never found anything about preloading and I haven't done a damn thing to preload it... is it automatic?
DO NOT WANT.

Restart your steam. A new window with the option to preload will come on.

Yey, thanks. :)

You can't. It's going to be quite a while before it's released hard copy. Even then...well I wouldn't. Just because I know you're going to have to go through endless updates anyways.

Meh, the progress won't go past 80% even though it's been going for 10 minutes.

Yea, I think the first 80% is all Source stuff, that's why it's automatically done. The rest is DoD:S junk.

Took maybe 15 minutes.

I'm guessing you're running on dual OC-3s then?

No, I'm only kidding. But 15 minutes? That's very, very impressive. I've been preloading for just over an hour, and got from 80% to 90%. I envy you and your internet connection.

Well, the boxed game comes out September 26th, which is the same as the unlocking date. And I wouldn't call it endless updates either, since DODS will be up-to-date you just need the latest Steam version (5-10 MB). Disabling autoupdates on the other games works too if you don't want to play any of them.

EDIT: By the way, I'm not saying that retail is the best idea. The Silver Steam package seems to have been an awesome deal. DODS, HLS, and the entire back cataloge from Valve for just $9.99 more.

You're kidding? I hadn't heard anything on a release date for that so I figured it would be quite a long while. Either way, you HAVE to buy CS:S with DoD, so if you already have HL2...well there's 10 bucks down the drain.

About Lost Coast, Valve has stated in e-mails that Lost Coast is coming after DoD:S.

Some are speculating its cause they're waiting for the next wave of video cards to be released first (which is October, November I think)

Edit: And personally, this is fine for me. Not many companies release so many new updates and levels to things for free...

True, but if you already own a Half-Life 2 retail or Bronze package, you'll end up spending $20 if you want DODS one way or another from what I can see. DODS by itself, over Steam, without CSS, is still $19.99.

PRELOADING COMPLETE! 21 minutes. Yay.

Wrong. Right click Steam. Browse games.

Try the "Individual Games" tab.

Can't buy it yet though.

This probably is only part of the package. You'll probably have to preload more stuff in a couple days or at least once more before the launch.
