Howdy y'all. Yep, a few questions today that, I know as ever, you'll answer because you're all nice like that!

First up, WinAmp - is there any way I can get the graphic equalizer to automatically change depending on the song? I.e. kick into rock mode when something rock comes on, and then when a reggae track comes up, have it shift into reggae by itself for that track?

Second, Firefox - my bookmarks toolbar's getting filled up - so far I can't find a way to make it bigger - any tips?

Third, Windows: I want to put a shoot-off menu of a folder in my Start Menu for my Downloads - i.e. like the My Pictures one so you can roll over a link to My Downloads and have a menu roll out of all the files I've downloaded - at the moment all I can get is a shortcut to the folder - I know there are some tricks where you can rename a folder to a string of code and it becomes a shoot out folder for Printers (that was on Win98). This is XP by the way! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

For the third question:
Right click on the start button, click Open All Users. A start menu folder should appear. Now, right click drag a folder you want to appear on the start menu. When you get it in the Start Menu window, let go, and a menu should pop up. Hit Create Shortcut. Close the window, and check your start menu now. It should be above the Programs group. As for the Mozilla Firefox bookmarks, have you tried using folders to keep it clean? Right click on the bookmark folder, and click on New Folder. Name it whatever you want, like Funny Flash Sites, and drag all the fitting bookmarks in there. Now all you have to do is click the folder, then the item you want.

Couldn't get your Start Menu one to work I'm afraid... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Hmm.. i've been trying to figure that out, myself. there was anouther topic about it, i don't think anyone reponded to that one. Oh, adn CM, that's how to get the shortcut in 'All Programs', not how to make it an off-shoot tab.

It's a registry hack, I'm sure of it - the first step is the one above....

If you wanted the hassle, you could just create it yourself with a bucketload of shortcuts in a program folder - but obviously it wouldnt update to include new files...

Try something like http://www.tweakxp.com/display.aspx?id=1002 perhaps?

That is a folder on the taskbar instead of the start menu. I couldn't find any way to add a NEW folder to the My Stuff folders list, but if you really wanted, you could reuse one of the existing ones, rename it and go to "start menu Properties-Customize-Advanced-Start Menu Items" and check the "Display as menu" box

No, it's not. I just did it, and it goes right above the Programs menu, not IN it. I'll take some screenies of what I am doing, so you can see.

Right Click on the Start Button, and hit the highlighted option.

A window similar to this should open.

Drag a folder into the above window, using the right mouse button. You should get this menu. Click the highlighted option.

Voila! Check out your start menu, it should be working now, as shown in this picture. You can rename the start menu shortcut, by right clicking on the folder, and clicking rename.

I have tried this on my own XP system here, and it works also. If it doesn't work with the themes on, try turning them off, doing this, then turning them back on.

A second option, which might seem easier for some, is to drag the folder with the right mouse button, hold it over the start button (but don't let go!!!), and the start menu will open. Go up the menu, until you are above the programs group. You can place it anywhere above there.

Alternatively, set the EQ to Laptop Speakers/Headphones... this seems to be the best balanced EQ for most styles... its all I ever use.

You have to do without the enhanced start menu with that approach

I use winamp 2.7

you probably use 3.x or something so good luck, but you change the graphic equalizer as you like, then click presets -> save -> autoload preset

But, in XP, how do i make a shoot-off folder on the right side of my start menu, the place where My Documents and My Computer and Control panel and such are? I can get a shorcut in there, but i can't make it an off-shoot.

With regards to Winamp, version 5 has an auto EQ button which does exactly what you want! I just discovered it now by accident!

Don't use the crappy styled ugly bloated theme, use the classic theme. BAM, problem fixed. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

nah, i like my bloated theme. The classic theme is too, uh, sharp for me, if that makes any sence.

The solution was right under my nose the whole time!!

I've got a program called Shelltoys XP, I got it off a cover disc, but I believe this is a free version, and there was a swankier one to upgrade to for 20 dollars or whatever... but back to the point!

Find and install Shelltoys, then simply right-click on the folder you want on the start menu, and go through the shelltoys thingy on the context menu and select "Cascade to Start Menu".

Job done!

(Waits for the praise to roll in....oh yeah, oh yeah...! *happydances then bows to gratuitous applause*)

I'll check it out first...

[EDIT]: No praise I'm afraid - it didn't work.

Didn't work how? Was the right bit of Shelltoys there and just not work?

EDIT: Just tested it again and it works for me still - and I'm using XP with the big start menu!
