RIAA and all those companies are on BitTorrent

Well, I work at the Computing Services on LSU Campus, and one of our jobs is to shut off students ports once we get a complaint from the RIAA or NEWL or any of those companies. Today I was telling a student his port was shut off, and I noticed that the Protocol was BiTTorrent, and Network was BTPeer. So, I am not like...telling people to download illegal material, but just letting people know they are out there. If someone says OLD NEWS or any variant of that sort, I will kill you. Thanks [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

/me says "old news" in his head, but not aloud for fear of being murdered.

Honestly, I'm always suprised to see so many people still using Kazaa Lite with so many better methods such as Bit Torrent and private FTP's.

indeed, pub/private ftp servers are your friends. Most people still use kazaa b/c they're too stupid to know how to do anything else.

Or, you can just search the song you want under Altavista's audio search function. Chances are, you'll get at least one decent mp3 in the results. Plus, its faster than any p2p, and no download queues, either.

Or, if you have some good friends, WASTE....WASTE owns all.

But yes, BitTorrent is at a strong disadvantage. You can easily just check an IP of someone if you were part of a group, and, there aren't thousands and thousands of sites that have torrents. There are really only 5 or 10 really big ones, so it's easy to monitor.

However, BitTorrent downloads things in small chunks, which is an advantage. ISPs usually check if they see someone dowlnoading a 4GB file named "Unreal 2004"

Most pubs have large files saved in split winrar files.

The file would be divided into 14 mb or so chunks, and these chunks would be something like

Unreal2004.r01 to unreal2004.r44

or something like that.
