That's right! The province of Alberta is giving every man, woman and child $400.00
for doing nothing before the end of this year :D... Thing is, I don't know why just yet..

Ha. Stupid Albertans. You have to do nothing for the rest of the year, but, by claiming your money, you're doing something. Ha.

Bah, you have yet to learn the art of leeching off the WSIB. I'm still getting paid for my arm injury even though I've been in school for three weeks...

Actually I told them I was going back to school and wasn't going to be working anymore anyways, and they said they would still pay me until the doctor said I was fit to go back to work... whether or not that was after the time I would have been done work in the first place. Kinda weird.

Nothing. It goes to the parents. IE. The head of every household gets sent a cheque for 400.00 for every person in the house hold. It is then thier choice to do whatever they want with it, (like choose if they want the kids to have it or not, or to save it or something... My mother wants me to save it :()

I would consider it to be a tax break of sorts-- even if you don't pay canadian income tax I'm willing to bet that you still have paid sales tax at least once in your life. (I don't know how much your sales tax up there is, but ours is 8.25% here in Los Angeles county, and I think that I'm getting screwed.)

If I lived in Canada was was taxed half to death because of it, I would rather get some of my money back instead of having it go to fund public services.

And yes, I am a Republican.

You sure he's not an American politician?

Edit: 8.25% up in L.A.? They have their own sales tax? I'm still dishing out 7.75%

Sales tax is the 7% GST in Alberta. They don't have a provincial sales tax, like the other provinces, since they're so god-damned rich that they don't need one.

Sales tax is like the VAT we have here right?
*Does the Britassian "You Americans/Canadians have no right to complain we pay blah blah blah" thing*
It's 17.5% here
2005-09-22, 6:29 AM #26
Sales tax is whatever percent on the dollar you pay when you buy something. Like something for 1.00 is 1.07 (For me and my 7% GST) But 17.5%?! Ouch.

Dang, I wanted to silence them all with our 16% tax, but you silly Brits always have to be more expensive!
But it's possible, that it will be raised in the next four years.

Fortunately the tax on books is only 8%.

it's like living in alaska. my guess is they'll be doing this every year until the money runs out. which will be for infinity. they have a trillion barrels of oil in oil sands. the price of oil will continue to rise.

That joke makes no sense anymore. Canadian money is hardly worthless at all. 400 dollars canadian is about 350 dollars american...not much difference.

No use trying to reason, just let the silly American feel bigger than the Canadian.

I am really sick of that joke, too. To think that our dollar was once much stronger than the American dollar as well.

Ah, a socialist tax return.

It's still better than giving the money to Quebec though.
