What are the best Playstation 1 games?

I'm catching up on some of those older games that I never got around to playing.

PSX games that I've played + My personal rating:

Final Fantasy VII (10/10) - Awesome

Final Fantasy VIII (9/10) - Great despite of some of the flawed gameplay mechanics

Final Fantasy IX (8/10) - Also great, but the combat isn't exciting enough to warrant those insane enemy encounter rates

Chrono Cross (7/10) - A bit dull in places, but fun nonetheless

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (9/10) - Fun gameplay, awesome soundtrack. I must say that the other sound effects in the game are a bit loud and annoying and really get on my nerves.

Xenogears (7/10) - Complex story, lots and lots of dialogue. An interesting experience, but it ain't no Planescape: Torment

Games that I own but haven't played a lot:

Final Fantasy Tactics - at least an 8/10 for sure, but I find it indredible difficult and just don't have the time for games like this anymore

Vagrant Story - I own it, but haven't played

Final Fantasy Chronicles. It contains FF IV and the remake of one of the best games for the SNES, Chrono Trigger. The remake comes with about 14 minutes of extra cut scenes animated by none other than Akira Toriyama himself. The game'l take about 12 to 25 hours to complete depending on which of the 12 possible endings you are shooting for. Because of this, there is a ton of replay value. Excellent game, you should be able to find it for $20-$35. Probly less on eBay.
I'm not wearing any pants...

Bushido Blade 1 & 2

If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Spyro The Dragon Trilogy

Despite the somewhat linear first game, (more back tracking in the second two), the games are freaken awesome. Vinny will agree with me

If you have someone else to play with, I'd recommend two player Diablo. I know it's on the PC too, but I loved just kicking back on the couch with someone, and playing that. Great fun

Ah, the original Tomb Raider. That game bugs me so much, but I guess it's good.

Effing dinosaurs, and silly jumping puzzles, and random switches in random places.

The series goes way downhill after the first one.
2005-09-25, 11:10 PM #29
i wouldn't say that... after the first the games remained basically the same thing with slight graphical improvments... then it went WAY downhill really fast when they released angel of darkness

Hopefully 5 makes up for 3 and 4. It looks pretty good, espescially the combat.
