What's the deal with unrelated riders? Why has no one struck that down? It goes completely against logic and democracy.

And in neither of those links could I figure out what a broadcast flag actually is. Only that it relates to television somehow.

The broadcast flag prevents the recording of HD broadcasts. The MPAA is trying to push this bill, which has been taken down TWICE NOW, down the throats of the American people so they can prevent them from recording TV. Every HD device will be forced by law to properly recognize the flag.

The MPAA is pushing this to prevent people from recording HD programs and movies, burnings them on DVDs. Fewer people go buy DVDs, less money for the people putting them out.
