If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
About the DivX Converter MPEG-2/DVD Plug-in

Unfortunately we are not able to give away the DivX Converter MPEG-2/DVD Plug-in for free. If you want to convert MPEG-2/DVD sources to DivX, you may purchase it as an add-on for DivX Converter by following this link...
Heh heh. Some small catch.

Well, I haven't used divx other than through AutoGK, so I doubt this special offer matters that much to me anyway. But still it was all the same to go and get it... Thanks for the headsup, Compos Mentis!

no worries, it still takes vob files. All I have to do is rip the vobs and this will do the rest.

Fine Print: I legally own all the DVDs that I plan to do this with.

I use Divx/Xvid a lot b/c my dvd player supports it.

the only bad thing about the way my player handles divx is that I can't skip around in the track like i can with VLC. (the forward/back buttons on the remote do nothing in divx) I pretty much have to watch it from beginning to end.

Indeed it can. And it can do a helluva lot better job than Divx Pro, or most encoders for that matter.

It is far from easy to use though.

Indeed. And besides, the main point of the thread is free $20 software, whether or not there are alternatives ;)
