What would you consider as "elitism" in forums like these? When someone is mean to another member? When someone tries to act superior over everyone else? When someone puts down another member and make themselves popular?

Well anyway, is there too much elitism here, just the right amount or...too little? Is it unavoidable?

One of the most stereotypical forms of forums elitism is obviously scoffing at new members. However, that's practically absent and nonexistent here at Massassi.

Editing / showcase forums elitism is another matter, mostly related to the level of skills (concrete or imagined, or lack of). It might also exist here at Massassi.

No, there isn't really any editing elitism here.

Well, I don't know. There isn't any elitism over editing if the person was new. If he isn't new, then that's the problem.

I would consider this: http://forums.massassi.net/vb3/showthread.php?t=36226#post552677
to be elitism.

What does my relative post count have to do with anything? I really don't know... Hell, I've been here since I was in 7th grade, and I'm in college now. Except that apparently my post count is worth more than my plea for help.

I've been reading these forums, and posting occasionally, for years. I've been here since UGO dropped Massassi from its hosting. But I get this kind of crap because I don't post my opinion in every single thread that gets posted. Because my reputation is mostly non-existant, my thoughtful points often get ignored, as do my threads. You could probably do a search on all of the threads I've started, and seen that most don't even get past the first page. In fact, if I recall correctly, the only thread of mine that got anywhere near past three pages was one where I decried the pervasiveness of religion where I live. You can't find that now though, because it got deleted several forum clears back.

I would say yes, there is an elitism here at Massassi. A reputational elitism/post count elitism is what we have here.

On a lighter note, I stick my tongue at all of you people who have nothing to say, but say it all the time: :p

There isn't really much regular elitism here. Occasionally, but not too often. I think that's mostly because we don't have a large influx of new people.

Massassi's elitism is only existant in small doses. Primarily between those of us who are older and more established members and some of the newer members. There also was the period of time where the secret societies reigned supreme. However, those days are long gone. It's a shame too. I miss the FoJ.

In regards to the showcase, I believe that rather than elitism, people just tend to respect the well known members opinions more so. And obviously, foolish questions or comments will be, sometimes deservingly, put down a bit. A good example: My first thread/post
