I'm looking for a good one, hopefully a Firefox extension, and maybe a bit of an explanation on how they work. Just the reader will be good, probably, as I'll end up fiddling with it until it works.

Firefox supports RSS feeds natively.

Thunderbird also reads RSS feeds in a different style, more like reading news articles.

There's also a stock ticker-like RSS reader that takes up a small portion of your desktop if you use desktopX.
