Best photo after a professional fight
2004-05-24, 7:45 PM #1
Alright, a little set up for this photo. There is a man named Royler Gracie who practices a style of JiuJitsu called Gracie JiuJitsu (aka Brazilian JiuJitsu). His father, Helio is the founder of it. There is also a Japanese man named Genki Sudo, who does this exact same JiuJitsu. Last night they fought in a professional match. In the photo, Gracie is on the left, and Genki Sudo is on the right. Sudo is known for his crazy antics, including entering the arena dressed as a Samurai, a Kabooki girl or most notably, when he came in with a white mask on, a KFC bucket on his head, a propane tank on his back, fire shooting out of the KFC bucket, and he then did the robot.

Now, this is the funniest photo I have ever seen.

I want a picture of that (or a video, so as to see the dance).

Why is it funny?
Is he mocking Gracie?
Is he seriously bowing to Gracie?

He is seriously bowing to him. After he bowed, he ran over and made sure the guy was ok. You gotta realize, in alot of these matches, these guys don't have a grudge. They'll beat each other senseless, then as soon as the fight is over, shake hands, hug, help one another up, etc.

That Gracie guy also was beaten by a man named Sakuraba a few years ago. When he fought Sakuraba, Sakuraba hit him in the leg and Gracie flinched and grabbed his leg in pain. Sakuraba asked if he was ok, and Gracie said yes, they high fived one another (or did something with the hands) and then beat each other up some more.

Yes, martial artists don't fight, they spar, and one of the important tenents of most martial arts is to respect your opponent.

Don't know where you got that idea from. Go look in history, they have had grudges for years. It wasn't until recently that these grudges subsided. The Choy Lay Fut people and Wing Chun people use to beat the crap out of each other on the Hong Kong rooftops. It isn't until these recent times that the "respect the other" thing showed up. These guys who are fighting usually don't have an ego thing going. I've watched dozens of these matches, and in the majority, they will hug, shake hands, bow, do something to congratulate the opponent.

After Sakuraba humiliated Royce Gracie a few years ago, and if you watched the fight, it pretty much was a humiliation, he walked over and shook the hands of Royce's dad, who congratulated him.

After the Shamrock/Gracie fight, the ring guy asked if Shamrock thought he was the 2nd best, and Shamrock responded he thought he was the 3rd best that night.

Sparring is for those who don't wanna get hurt pretty much, those who have standard 9-5 jobs and don't wanna show up with black eyes, etc. Pride and UFC and what not is just full force fighting, with total respect in the majority of them.

Ironically Jake, I do Kung Fu AND JiuJitsu. So I can say "I know Kung Fu..." and "JiuJitsu? I'm gonna learn JiuJitsu?"

I've seen the dude on the right fight before in a UFC competition. He seems a little whacky, but he bows out of respect. Did the same when I saw him win his match. He's got a great presence in the ring.

You see guys like him in some fights. The reason being is because some of these fights can last less than 10 seconds (And I've seen those as well). So who wants to see a fight that ends in the amount of time it takes to take a piss? He does the flashy stuff before/during fights for the purpose of extra entertainment. Win or lose, just as long as the people who pay for the stuff get some entertainment from it.

He still looks like a seriously good fighter... I mean... look at that spinning arm thing he does. That's gotta be deadly, since you don't expect the blow coming... instant knockout as seen in some of the highlights.

Who are the guys he has lost to?

That's a spinning backfist. It's banned in most traditional martial arts competitions because it's so powerful. :-)

Yes, that irritates me about the UFC and a lot of the other organisations like it.. It's turning it into a spectator sport.
Martial arts is about improving yourself, physically, mentally and spiritually. Being able to knock someone out in one punch doesn't make you a good martial artist.

Alright, there are 2 major types. K-1 is a full force kick boxing match with throws, but no wrestling. Once it goes to the ground, you get off your opponent or get disqualified. Well, Sudo has lost all his matches in K-1 except 2. The second being the one seen above (but that isn't a normal K-1 match, that allowed wrestling so it doesn't fall into the K-1 category). The other win was against a Korean guy and ironically the same fight where he came in with the KFC bucket doing the robot.

http://ko.sherdog.com/fightfinder/displayfighter.cfm?fighterid=506

That's his K-1 fight record. 1-3-0. Not a good thing.

http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/fightfinder.asp?fighterid=1227

That is his normal NHB record, 10-3-1. Ironically, all 3 of his losses in NHB were do to decisions, never submission. Not the best man out there in NHB as far as record goes though.

I reccommend watching this guy's video highlight really fast. He is known for never throwing punches, but instead he likes to pimp slap his opponents.

http://www.sherdog.com/fightfinder/fightfinder.asp?fighterID=214

Just click the highlight video.

Eh, most people seem to learn it just so they can kick anyones *** .

Personally, I'm not interested in that. if I learned it it WOULD be for self improvement. Being a better person, etc.

The UFC and K-1 provide MMA practicioners the oppritunity to compete with each other in a safe environment with rules and regulations to prevent such incidents as the death of Douglas Dedge from happening again.

UFC isn't just about martial arts. And when I comes down to it, being able to put someone down in a blow or two is a lot more valueable than all the flashy stuff you see in the movies
