Okay, the Massassi Radio Network is up and running!

Let me know what you all think of the design! (Don't bother checking for validation, it fully validates to XHTML 1.1 and full CSS)

Obviously the site is a bit bare right now, but it is mainly meant as a hub for the other sites, such as RTFM.

If anyone has a radio show (or maybe their own DJ site :/ ) they would like linked, post it here and I'll get it on the page.

Also, a neat little feature available on this page is the "quick lyric lookup". Just click on the name of the song in the navbar. It'll do a Google "I'm feeling Lucky" search and take you to the first hit, which 99% of the time is a site containing lyrics for the song playing.

I can only do a maximum of 20 from shoutcast itself. But I'll see what I can do.

Nice :D

Also, who's the DJ currently on?

Perhaps you could add a schedule of DJ slots.
2005-10-09, 7:32 AM #9
Is there a IRC channel for it too? So I can talk about how creepy it is for TMNT to be on.

[QUOTE=Glyde Bane]Nice :D

Noopectro (aka l3cy) is on right now, all last night was me.

If you are listening, you can usually check the song title for the DJ.

For example: "Massassi Radio: DJNoop on the Brit Hour- Putting the ARSE in MARSEARSEI"

DJNoop = Noopectro :D

And yes, there is. #massradio

It's on the same server as #massassi.

And for the "schedule", I still need to get Yoshi to finalize the schedule first.

I also got another good idea, which was "DJ Profiles". I'll probably do that sometime today or tomorrow.

You divide the navbar by hand with the ---- and of course it doesn't match the width, you have rules for lists in the navbar, which is a good idea, but use paragraphed menuitems instead, and I guess some accessibility issues
2005-10-09, 3:34 PM #16
This has the possibility of being very good. :)

You should use an open submission news script (like what I have on RTfM) so that DJs can submit news and you can review and post them with little to no effort. Just a thought.

These were issues for stupid incompatibilities.

The ----- thing is because there really isn't a decent method of going about that. Especially since the <hr> tag produces ugly lines and is being deprecated.

I also wasn't trying to match the width with the dividers, I liked them as they were. I could probably make them fit if you'd think they'd look better.

And as for the <li> stuff, I blame Firefox/IE for stupid incompatibilities. Firefox would throw a huge margin for <li>'s while IE would not, making the page look inconsistent and messed up. I was forced to use <p> instead.

Also, what accessibility issues? The site uses 0 images, is compliant HTML, fits on 800x600 monitor, uses preferred php variable URLs (and as short as possible, in an attempt to allow Google to browse and cache the site properly).

could you possibly have a request script? For people that don't wish to ***** for songs in #massradio :p

1) border-bottom

2) * { margin: 0; padding: 0; } this is the first thing that should be in every site stylesheet, you have half of it already. The idea is to completely wipe out the browser-specific defaults.

3) accessibility issues are a result of not using lists for the menus, also you're not using heading tags for your headings.

There is NO point making your site have valid syntax if you're not using tags in a semantically-correct fashion. You may as well just use tables to get things displaying the same in all browsers. (slight exaggeration but you get the point, validation isn't to gain geek points, it has a reason)

I understand the reasoning, it's just I was playing around with the damn code for an hour and it simply wouldn't play nice.

Anyway:

1. Fixed.
2. Fixed.
3. Like I said, I understand the reasoning for validations. I was simply at a loss for how to get it to work together in all browsers. And I did mess with border-bottom, but I dunno what I was doing. It works now, at any rate.

Also, the header tags and overused paragraph tags are now fixed thanks to the padding: 0px option that I somehow neglected. (Through my own stupidity, not because I didn't know about it.

A. Talk to Yoshi privately.
B. You need to go to #massradio to be an active DJ.
2005-10-09, 9:18 PM #26
You should have a section with little blurbs for the different DJs and you can have little listener testemonials. :)
2005-10-09, 9:21 PM #27
could the site maybe have a list of DJs and time they play on the site, and also have the artists they like to play?

Instead of using lists, why don't you define display: block; for a certain link class or id (namely the ones that go in that navigation div)

and instead of using .borderbottom as a ul class, use it in a span

That would be because it is a list of links.

The only thing wrong with it now is that the CSS classes are named after their visual style, not their function/meaning. ".borderbottom"?</nitpicking> :p

Now as for naming, as long as I understand it, I couldn't care less.

You got to it first! Probably 'cause I left the computer for a few minutes while I was typing the message, so I didn't see yours... nice one.

I think this was designed with resolutions 1024x768 or less in mind. I don't like that. I think a good # of us are at least 1152x864 and above.

Example:
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.
2005-10-10, 5:51 PM #35
Well, if a site has too much whitespace and I don't like it, I usually size my browser window down.

However my own site designs are variable width. :)

2005-10-11, 12:12 AM #36
It's hardly WASTED space. The page just doesn't go down that far...

It was designed for 800x600 users, which actually a good number of people who have visited my site use. (I have statistics, it's like 34%)

Anyway, the site just doesn't go down further because there's nothing to put down there. Sure, I could make the grey bars extend down, but then it'd make it look even more stupid.

I tried to reach you in the chat for like a whole hour, but you never responded.

Sux0rs to be you.

I can't release the password to all DJs, simply because of the security implications (you can do a lot more with it than kick a DJ off)
