Amen to that. My mom would watch me occasionally (I was like 7) and she'd always laugh when the guys did their push-ups and what not on the field. Red Alert and RA2 are the best in the series.

If you like Red Alert 2, you MUST check out the DeeZire mod. Unfortunately due to engine limitations it will cause XP to crash if you aren't using the Yuri's Revenge expansion. It adds all sorts of new units, ugrades, powers and countries to the game. Each country is a seperate army with their own special abilities. E.g. Britiain, Germany, France and the USA are all allied but each country has it's own specialties. Brits have snipers, USA has paratroopers, France has a huge defensive cannon, etc. Same goes for the Soviet side. It also fixes a lot of balance issues in the game.

The same guy also made mods for Red Alert, Tiberian Sun, Generals/Zero Hour and Battle for Middle Earth.

heheheh Cazor...my mom did the same thing, and freaked out at the chem. warfare troops in the original.

I've got TS and it's expansion in my hand right now.

Those games hold a place in my heart, and childhood memories. I just never could get IN to TS. Generals..I just don't like it. RA2 was hilarious, and just great fun.

Thank you for bring this topic up TE.

Great games. I have only good memories of them. They are the first thing to enter my mind if somebody mentions rts game type.

Anyone wanna set up a game [NOT THROUGH WOL!]?

Ah RA2 how you...explode SOVIET UNION!
2005-10-10, 9:40 AM #22
I prefered C&C '95. Many memories of that.

But yaar, nevertheless. Frank Klepacki is teh WIN.

EDIT: Damn you FGR. I didn't notice. :(
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Ooooohhh, yeah. I remember being blown away by the freakin' installer of C&C1 (or 2). How's the installer of the newer games?
And I remember that in the German version the soldiers had to have green blood and were supposed to be robots.

PS: Nothing beats StarCraft. :em321:
Sorry for the lousy German

I just installed RA to get Hell March. I LOVE THAT SONG.

C&C 4EVER! (I didn't play 'Craft until a few years ago, so I'm biased towards C&C)
I had a blog. It sucked.

C&C and RA have always been my favorites.

It was a sad day when I found out Westwood Studios had been closed down and consolidated into one of EA's studios. :(

Emon those country traits you listed are in the game by default. France/Britain/US allied... and with Snipers/Paratroopers/The Grand Cannon?

And dammit, I don't have Yuri's revenge and I'm running XP which means no DeeZire I guess -_-

Oh right, but it does add new stuff for each country, making them even more individualized.

Seriously, check out the mod, you will NOT be dissapointed. I mean, Russia has a subterrainian mobile war factory with a missle launcher called the Iron Fist. It literally goes underground, how awesome is that?? And it's not some cheap hack either, it won't dig into the ground through concrete, and if you tell it to resurface where there is concrete, the unit will move to the closest soft dirt, surface and move to the point you specified.

Russia also has the Oktober sub, a powerful sea-to-land vessel that fires a devastating cluster missle. You can only have one on the map at any given time, though.

There are tons of new tech buildings. My favorite is the one airfield that grants you the ability to call in A-10s which are very similar to those in the original C&C. They drop a heavy napalm payload which devastates ground troups and vehicles.

You can train Navy seals as well as new hero units for several armies. Fun fun!
