Columbus Day
2005-10-10, 4:52 AM #1
Does Christopher Columbus deserve a national holiday? Is it a valid discovery of the Americas if there were arleady people leaving there, and an achievement for a guy was clueless in where he was going?

Most importantly though, is your school/university closed because of this "holiday"? Mine isn't. I remember in middle school, long ago, they closed down on this day. :(

My Networking teacher cancelled class because "if the banks are closed, it's enough of a holiday for me." School is still in session, though.

When I was little we used to have this as a day off from school. Now we don't, but places like the USPS still take it off. :(

I remember when I moved one time though, my mom thought that Columbus day we had off like we did where we used to live. So I stayed home that day from school. Then we found out that that school didn't celebrate Columbus Day, so I had to explain it to the teachers the next day why I missed class.

The USPS thing ticks me off though, as I'm expecting a package that is currently located at my post office, but won't be delivered till Tuesday.

Maybe the police also have it as a day off, and you could go and get the package unofficially...

I was happy there was a day off, then my friend calls and tells me he's picking me up at noon and we are going to have band practice ALL DAY LONG.

:(
Think while it's still legal.

Haha I got classes off.

So I celebrated by sleeping in until 11.

You should probably get them inspected at your local Midas, Elana. If you only use it once per year...? Lot of time for them to go bad.

I was thinking more along the lines of a "when it all began" type thing.
