A spokesperson said: "The basic idea in chessboxing is to combine the No 1 thinking sport and the No 1 fighting sport into a hybrid that demands the most of its competitors - both mentally and physically."

Holy ****!
They've actually done it! It's inspired from Enki Bilal's concluding part of the Nikopol Trilogy, Froid Equateur (one of my favourite comicbook works and artists)!

Totally ****ing awesome!
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Hahaha... that's great. That would be pretty awsome to be in.

Maybe chess will stop being seen as so nerdy now.

Alternating between chess and boxing? Pssh.

I have a better idea:
- Life-size chess board
- Professional boxers for each of the pieces. Kings are the most powerful boxers in the bunch, followed by queens, etc.
- Two people who call out moves for either side.
- When one piece would capture another, the two boxers fight. Whoever wins gets to hold the place, loser is out of the game.
- Whichever team KOs the other's King, wins.

Ha! That's great! Now we've got to have strategy games where units are people who fight each other to determines who wins.

[edit]DARN YOU MAZZT. That was my idea! And it would be better if it was wargame style, not chess.

Amazing! Terrific! Wonderful!

That's a stupid concept. They haven't "created" anything.

When I read these posts, I imagined something like mZZt's idea and jokingly imagined big, tough boxers duking it out and then sitting down for a nice game of chess. Imagine my laughter when my joke turned out to be true.

(there was a lot of laughter)

This is... I mean... this is just so ridiculous. It's like Nascar drivers racing a few laps and then exiting their cars to play a few rounds of lawn bowling. -_-

I'm not trying to be funny. It's just... gah...

Well, there's even a Wiki entry on it.

Quote:
A match between two opponents consists of up to eleven alternating rounds of boxing and chess sessions, staring with a four-minute chess round followed by two minutes of boxing and so on. Between rounds there is a 1 minute pause, during which competitors change their gear. The form of chess played is "blitz chess" in which competitors have a total of twelve minutes. Competitors may win by knockout, checkmate, a judge's decision or if their opponent's twelve minutes of chess time elapses.

Seems like a mighty dumb idea to me, TBH.
