When I need a large input of intelligent thoughts and inovative ideas, theres one place i come, only one group of people i turn to, and thats YOU guys.

What with all your science knowledge and scifi knowledge and all, I need some help about this stuff.

I am getting more into a story I have created 7 years ago, and i am at the point now where I am creating one of the alien species in great detail, both in CGI and background theory.

So heres your test, massassi.

These life forms evolved on a moon, in which the light in the atmosphere is shifted towards infrared.
Tree foliage (similar to our own trees) is blue.
The Faenyn evolved like our own primates, in the jungle swamps near the equator, however, overall their planet is MUCH colder than ours, their equator at best is the same temperature of north east europe.

They had natural predators, and evolved one interesting defense.
their skin is usually dark redish orange, but when scared of stressed, their skin cells turn a dark blue colour.
[if my science is correct, a dark blue colour in red light should be very hard to see, as opposed to redish orange, which should be MUCH brighter]

Their eyes. No eyeballs, but 2 symetrical organs that detect light close to infrared. [ie, they can see no further than greeny blue]. Eyelids however, are very clever. Instead of opening eyelids like we do, they have a constant thick membrane over their eyes. In low light levels, the membrane remains opaque.
But in more intense light, to protect their eyes, the membrane cells change [crystal like cells] and form a reflective layer. this is not simply open and close like ours, it ajusts to whatever light intensity you through at them.

Ok, now over to you.

I need to discuss the way in which the Faenyn live.
What do they eat, how do they eat?
What are the teeth like, do they have a tounge?
DO they breathe through the mouth? Or do they absorb air through their tentacle like hair at the back??.

The lungs will probably be in the head, meaning the brain ISNT as big as you think it is.

I hope to recieve interesting ideas.

Breathing through all skin pores! And/or bellybutton

I like Jep's idea. They don't "breathe", they "absorb". But it only works in thier atmosphere.

That breathing idea is good. If you want know how they eat or about their teeth, it would be good to know what they eat first. Those two flaps that cover their upper mouths look like they would be pretty well muscled and controlable. Maybe they could move food around in their mouths with those instead of with a tounge.

edit: on a closer look, I dunno about the tounge thing. How much moves when they open their mouths?

Ideas:
- What do they eat, how do they eat?
--- They are vegetarians; they eat plants;

----- They do not have teeth; they have an almost suckerfish kind of mouth;
they wrap their mouth over the leaf and literally suck/absorb the nutrients out
thru the leaves (leaving a discolored yellowish-white leaf when all nutrients have been absorbed). There tongue is squishy like a snail, fat short...but extends from say 2" in normal state to like 6 or 7" elongated; this organ is used (also with very small orifice on tip of tongue) to test for the safe validity of a leaf, before absorption [aka, it will sense infections/disease/other chemicals or pesticides if on leaf]).

--- no; they breath thru slits ( these appear much as if the nose itself is no longer there, and all you see is the flaring slit-nostrils; in times of gaseous attacks by other attackers, their hyper-sensitive nostrils, can flare inward creating a thin filter-like membrane that covers the opening but allows minimal breathing for life support.......they can maintain this for prolonged periods; but after this set time(unknown?) it is rumored that there vision becomes radically impaired (they see things around them in the negative spectrum...soon after, passing out)



Hows that for some alien-esque ideas?
