I'm not personally a fan of busy wallpapers, but if you're going ot use it (it is a cool pic) then the first thing I'd do is run it through a softening filter with paint shop pro or whatever, take the sharp edges off if only by blurring them slightly.

Do you really need permission?

Personally, I wouldn't use it. It's not a very good shot.
