Ha! Fooled you.

I would normally consider posting stuff like this on my blog, but most people I know in real life actually read my blog and I don't really feel like being a non-anonymous attention-whore right now.

Recently i've become increasingly aware of how wrongly people "get" me. People have commented that nothing seems to bother me, which is exactly wrong. I take just about anything, regardless of how serious it was intended to be, very personally and it weighs on my thoughts for quite a while. Most people seem to assume I just shrug off any remarks anyone makes about me.

I generally consider myself to be quite romantic, i'm an old romantic fool and get quite emotional (no tears though :p) during those sentimental moments in films and stories (one of my favourite films is The Lion King). Today I was in the kitchen with some lady flatmates and I commented that something was romantic and the ladies (all of them) said that I didn't strike them as very romantic,

I have no intention of holding this against them, but the comments were more cutting than I expected. Obviously it's my fault if people are getting me so wrong, I just wish I knew how to be more... like me when people are around.

I'm with you on that, man. I consider myself a romantic (but no tears. Tears = emo >.> ), but the thing to remember is that people don't know you like YOU know you. You have to give them impressions of you.

Sounds like you just need to speak up more. Sounds like they just aren't used to you saying things like that.

It wasn't a "wow, that's romantic, I didn't expect that from you", it was a "that's funny because you don't mean it".

Basically, they thought I was joking.

quoting original posts makes me sad....

from what I can tell Det, you come across to me (and presumably everyone else here) much like you describe. guess you're just still not comfortable being yourself around 'real' people. the only way to make it better, I reckon, is to socialise more.

F*** being romantic, just be a man and the rest will take care of itself.
