My parents finally got a new computer...

It's nothing fancy, (see specs below) but it definately better than the Celeron 633 with Win ME they were running before... I'm so proud of them. *sniffle*

Parents new COMPUTER specs:
+ 1.1ghz Athlon 4
+ 256 DDR ram
+ S3 Graphics ProSavage DDR
+ 40 GB hard drive
+ 52x cd rom
+ CD-RW (writes at 40x)
+ Windows XP home

And, while I'm at it, my own computer's specs:

+ Windows XP Professional
+ Athlon XP 2000
+ 512 MB DDR Ram (will be upgraded to 1024 shortly)
+ GeForce 4 128 MB
+ crappy sound card that will soon be upgraded to something nice to go with my surround sound speakers.
+ 60 GB hard drive
+ 8 GB hard drive
+ 16x DVD Rom
+ 8x CD RW

Very nice. Better then my current:

AMD Athlon 850MHz
512MB RAM
40GB HDD (160GB on the way)
GeForce FX 5200 AGP 8x on 17" Monitor
2x Creative SB Live (Which hopefully I'll get working right soon..)
2x Voodoo3 3000 PCI on 15" Monitors
40x CD Burner
16x DVD

I mostly use it for recording and occasionally playing JA/JO and Freelancer, and web browsing. It does all that so I'm not upgrading.

XP 1800+
512 Megs of RAM (I should get some more I think)
Radeon 9700 Pro
SB Audigy Card with 4.1 speaker set up
17" monitor (I want a flat panel, but they're freaking expensive)
16x DVD-ROM
16x12x40x CD-RW

I'm planning on upgrading my processor sometime soon. Depends on whether I decide to work this summer or not.

  • DVD Drive
  • CD-RW Drive

*This is my system's weak point, but I see no reason to upgrade as it runs modern games at playable fps... I'm waiting for nvidia's next $200 card in the 6800 family.

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ @ 1.73 GHz
ASUS A7S333 mainboard (yuck)
512 MB PC-2700 RAM (2 sticks of 256)
ATI-built Radeon 9600 XT
17" NEC 16ms MultiSync LCD(1765)
Maxtor 40 GB HDD
CD-RW Drive
Onboard "3D" sound (through 2 speakers)
WinXP Pro
Standard speakers, standard keyboard, original IntelliMouse Explorer

The bluriness with my original graphics card (a Radeon 7000) was pretty bad. It almost seems like the LCD was being bottlenecked by it when you compare it to the 9600, which produces basically zilch as far as blurring goes.

I OC'ed it. It's running at 1.73 GHz right now. I would go higher, but I'm too afraid of my PCI stuff being destroyed (there's no PCI speed-lock.)
