The Light Side or The Dark Side? (or the Extra Crispy Side :P )
2004-05-24, 7:26 PM #1
This question is mostly aimed toward JK fans.

When you first started playing JK, which side of the force did you want to be on?

I remember "I wanna be on the dark side 'cause they got cool powers that doo lotsa damage -- let's kill as many civilians as possible to get there!". Kind of ironic because today, I'm always light side (with a possible few exceptions).

So what is/was/etc your choice? Why?

Dark side, definitely. In fact, I made sure that I killed every civilian/droid in Baron's Hed just to be sure.

Also, did you know that if you damage weegee enough in JK level 4, it will explode and oyu will immediately fall to the dark side?

I liked Dark Side because you got Force Throw, which was awesome for knowcking Stormies/Jedi around and sometimes blowing them off of cliffs (I was so mad when they too kthat power away in MotS). Personally, I thought the gmae was harder as a Dark Jedi though, and the end cutscene, while cool, I did not find as rewarding after playing the game.

I generally prefer lightside because I like where the story goes more, and persuasion is one of the most helpful powers ever. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I gotta try that.

Oh, and it depends. Sometimes I play it in the light side, sometimes not.

On MP though, I always used the dark powers.

I take it Mechwarrior like the Extra Crispy side [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif].

Yeah, I like the Lightside story better and the powers.
Code:
Speed ****
Jump ****
Seeing ***
Pull **
Healing ***
Persuasion ****
Blinding ****
Absorb none

I'm too lazy to use absorb -- maybe in SP i'd use it, but in MP Force speed is all I need [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] "Holy crap you're fast!"

I tried that and it didn't do anything; Until you posted that, I thought weegee was immortal or something.

Heh, if there was debris and crap in MotS suitable for throwing, I'd make a force throw mod for it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

I was always a Light Sider. I was so good at it, that I could rake up 15-20 kills before being taken down by a Dark Sider. I was accused of hacking of course, so I would let someone kill me to prove them wrong. Then I'd come back and tear them apart again for a little bit

Darkie in MP, Lightie in SP. I'd typically zoom past people with force speed, getting a grip lock on them, then turn back, force jump over their heads, throw a destruction at their feet and then finish them off with a lightsaber swing.

Lightside (SP & MP). I later beat the game with the Darkside as well. I enjoyed both paths. I eventually became well versed in both sides of the force in MP. I think that my reasons for originally choosing the Lightside had to do with my personality. I relate more to the Lightside of life.

Sadly this was/is true. It's amazing what you can do with Protection in Valley of the Jedi Tower. Also, I'd say that it's more like 90%. I've been accused of cheating/hacking, and being cheap so many times for playing the game how it was meant to be played that I don't even pay any attention to those people. I either boot them or ignore them, immediately.

Yes, toggle cheats were very popular. Quite sad actually. I think this is one of the main flaws with this game (ability to cheat so easily)...one that caused hundreds of hardcore/competitive gamers to turn away.

Great thread. I enjoy it when people here still talk about JK, since it's still one of the only games that I play.

I just used to annoy everybody by shooting knees with the pistol and running away, it worked quite well on saber maps.

Apart from that, they both had their good and bad points, I spent most my time waiting to respawn anyway... i dislike games that force yu to respawn after x amount of time, you can't go do something in the meantime.

When I first started playing JK, I *always* went to the dark side. It was problably because of all the droids I killed . . . yeah, that was it... But, after a while, I discovered that the protective powers of the light side gave me a distinct advantage. After that, I *never* went to the dark side.

Besides, I never liked to see Jan die. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

When I first started playing JK, I wanted to be lightside. So I tried real hard to stay lightside in Single Player. I thought it'd be far more difficult and challenging to stay true to the light. So, after finishing the game as a lightsider a couple of times, I started out killing everything in order to get to see the darkside cutscenes, etc. However, after a while, I just forgot that I was trying to become dark, lol, and it didn't work out. Then I found out how to enable the cutscenes manually, so I wouldn't have to play all through it again, lol.

In MP, I've always been lightside. Because it's way cooler to just rely on your saber than on 'direct damage' powers. I did try dark out, though, just to see what it's like.

I remember playing Manowars 2 all the time (anyone remember that mod? It was awesome), Force Throw was incredibly cool with that mod. I was in love with Force Throw, so I was dark for some time when playing manowars 2. The great thing is: You see your opponent, and you do a force throw at him, and then he takes off with his jetpack, it will cause all the blocks to fly up high in the air, hitting your opponent in mid-air. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif] I loved that sight. We used to play all those levels that had lots of things to throw, like Hall of Sabers, Coruscant Arena 1, and some of the Manowar levels.

I'm not sure. It's been awhile since I've done it, but I think the game progresses normally except you can only choose dark side powers once you have all the neutrals.

Basically, when you manage to hurt weegee enough, it explodes and Rahn's voice says "For you the choice is the dark side... "

This is very hard to do. Wegee is magsealed, and the room is too small to use explosive weapons. Generally, get weegee into a corner and just keep hacking away like mad with your saber and you should be able to do it.

I learned this secret when I used a mod that let me shoot force destructs out of the bryar. It's a lame mod that has been done to death, but it's surprisingly effective. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

How do you walk through walls in a negative space engine without falling into a bottomless pit of HOM?

Well, from what I understood, when the game makes you darkside, you get to miss a couple of levels. And yes, the cutscenes for dark are different. For example, as lightside, when you get out of the falling ship, the Moldy Crow crashes, and you have to battle Sariss. In the darkside cutscene, the Moldy crow doesn't crash, and Sariss shows up alive in the final cutscene, as your aid. So that's how I figured that you get to miss some levels when you go dark. Also, some cutscenes don't even have a darkside version, so I'm actually pretty sure, lol.

One thing I liked about JK was that there were definite consequences to your actions. The dark ending wasn't glorified at all, and was shocking to me how callous he was toward a memory of his father's love, and how he had an empire, yet was simply sitting there alone at the end.

One thing no other game captured was that quote from JK:
Quote:
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">With the Force there are two paths - good and evil - one may take nothing in between. One leads to a full life, no matter the years. Justice, knowledge and compasion are both endeavors and rewards. The other is most assuredly a short path that leads to untamed power. With nothing to earn, it leads to a certain solitary end. One should choose wisely.

1.) When you phase to walk through walls, your feet will stay on the ground. However, if you jump too high or fall too far, you will fall to a bottomless pit. I've done this several times by accident.

2.) It is towards the end. The exact area I can't remember, but what I do remember is that there is a room with a force field wall. The force field isn't visible, but when you shoot at it, nothing goes through. If you walk through this force field wall, the Stormtrooper and default.mat are in there. Also, if you can turn on/off the ghost phase, when you shut it off it transports you there automatically.

No, because the grip will still hold them in place even if they are absorbing. And if he has seeing on, the blinding is also useless.

Also, darkside has you fighting Yun a second time after Kyle lands the Crow instead of crashing it. There's also a lot fewer cutscenes than in the light side campaign.
