I just saw "Batman Begins" on DVD...
2005-10-20, 10:10 PM #1
Now, maybe I missed the buzz or the conversations or arguments or whatever, but is this supposed to be a prequel or a new beginning?

-Because it's a sucky prequel continuity wise, but an awesome new beginning in terms of new story direction.
2005-10-20, 10:14 PM #2
I think it's a new continuity, they wanted to get out of the rut the series dug itself into.

In that case, who could possibly play a new joker?
They'd probably have to go with one more like the Alex Ross design instead of the Jack Nicholson one. Jack got into that role and made it his own so severely I can't imagine anyone else playing it the same way without seeming shallow and hoarse.
So, someone thinner. Gaunt. Emaciated looking. With a sharp nose. Sharp featured skinny dude.

-I'd say Tophur Grace, but he's already Venom. [/sarcasm]

I saw that on IMAX and it was freaking SWEET!!! (Got in for free too as one of the dudes who slept on my floor worked there.) Anyway, I was thinking that weird guy from the first Charlie's Angel's movie with sword cane could play the Joker.

It's yet another new beginning. This has been done quite a few times in the batman movies.
I hope they keep with the dark atmosphere they did so well with this one.

Awesome movie. Who else bought the box set of the previous 4 that was released on tuesday? The digital transfer is outstanding.

They should go with Luke... I mean Mark Hamill. He's already done the Joker's voice for the animated stuff, why not give him a shot at the live action too :D

yeah, Mark Hamill.

Just got Batman Begins, missed it at the cinema so looking forward to watching this tonight.

Also got the new special editions of the first two, looks like I'm going to be busy this weekend.
yeah, Mark Hamill.
That would be sweet, at least to see him in another again.

Jack Nicholson and Jim Carrey are good candidates.

I'm not a big fan of the batman movies, so my memory may be rusty, but wasn't Jim Carrey already the Riddler? I can't imagine him being a "darker" Joker. I think he would bring too much silliness to the role, don't you think?

2005-10-21, 5:47 AM #15
yeah carrey was the riddler,

mark hamill could probably do a good joker, problem is I think he's a bit old now, he's in his 50's, not sure how he would hold up to the role.

that's not saying I don't want him to be the joker, what with the voice in the animation series and how well he did that, plus looking at his IMDB picture

he's almost got the smile for it naturally ;)

As for the movie, it rocked, loved the new batmobile, IMO the best ever closely followed by Tim Burton's in the first two movies.

Last I heard, Crispin Glover was currently the number one choice to play the Joker.
2005-10-21, 8:54 AM #17
i really liked batman begins. i was worried about what's his name that played batman but he did really well.
2005-10-21, 8:55 AM #18
I'd really like Hamill to be the Joker too. He's a talented guy who deserves another high profile role so that he doesn't go the rest of his life being remembered as just Luke Skywalker.

That and the fact that I'd like to see someone other than a really high profile actor take the role.

Yeah, he was actually pretty good in The Big Red One.
2005-10-21, 10:28 AM #20
Mark Hamill is too whiny. He also has cheezy screams.
2005-10-21, 10:32 AM #21
His screams are greater than Hayden Christensen's.

Mace Windus's is the best.

You should watch Batman: The Animated Series. If Jim Carrey had been a live-action version of that Joker, it would've rocked.

Too bad Willem Dafoe's pretty old now and already Green Goblin in Spider-Man, he's got the perfect personality for it.

Just watched BB, thought it was supergreat myself. Wipes the floor with any other comic book adaptation.

Correction: Luke Skwalker is whiny with "cheezy" screams. This is exactly what I'm talking about.

As the Two Face badguy (I believe), it worked for him. But for the Joker, I don't know.

No, Jack played the Joker in the first Batman movie. That's why he told you to go watch Batman...

No one does the voice better than Hamill.

Hey, why hasn't Mark ever done the voice of Luke in any of the SW games? I know he does game voices too. Admitedly, Batman games, but still.

-Hey, do you think they're gonna get another Robin? If so, a young one or another whiny teen (Hayden Christensen? j/k)
2005-10-21, 3:28 PM #36
I have the anthology. The special features are far more than I was expecting. There's a lot of information about the making of the films that I didn't know about.

He also did Wolverine's voice in the Wolverine game that was released a few years ago. He actually does a lot of voice work for many different things. I know he's done a few voices for Adult Swim's Robot Chicken. In fact, he might have even been Luke's voice in the Star Wars spoilers skit.

He was in the... was it Meteorgeddon? It had Harrison Ford and Aerosmith blowing up an asteroid, and Mark was giving the briefing.

-Yeah. All these voices, Mark, and yet you let Raven hire a guy off the street who'd literally do it for chickenfeed. I think he made the model too.

i was initially worried when they said Christian Bale was playing the part. I never saw American Psycho (although I heard he did good a million times from one of my good friends) but I do remember him from Little Women (yes, I saw it) and I just didnt think he could pull off Batman.

Honestly I liked the style and direction of this movie best. Not, putting down the other versions at all, because they all were good, from Micheal Keaton on. Nothing beats Jack Nicholson ya know. But this version didnt let me down, and I loved how they retold how he came to be Batman. I have the dvd as an early bday present and I've already seen it a couple of times more (although I had already seen it a couple times in the theatres). it's just a good movie. I didnt think i'd like it, and I really did. so kudos to the director and script writer for that, and to the actors for not ****ing up and ruining the movie lol :em321:

Christian Bale = best screen actor working today (probably)
