Odd computer questions...

More like one scenario and a question, and a question.

Question 1: My grandfather has Zone Alarm Pro on his machine. He was playing on some flash games website. He lowered Zone Alarm Pro to play some kind of lottery game. When he shut his computer down, one of his HIVE files was corrupted. Any ideas what could cause it? Virus, faulty hardware, etc? It's not the first time one has been corrupted.

Question 2: On an old Mac power PC, we can't get the disk tools to work. It was free and we wanted to check it out, works good and all, but it's password protected At Ease, and all we want to do is format it and see what a Mac is like. Any ideas on how to get it to work, from anyone who's good with Mac's?

Guess what? Yep, that's right. No, no, really, it's right. Think it's wrong? You're right, it's wrong. Know why? 'Cause it is

In reference to the Mac question... Why are you running At Ease instead of the Finder? If memory serves me, At Ease is an overly simplified GUI. All it really functions as is a program launcher. If you format the disk (right off I can't tell you how, I'll ask my dad. I have an idea, but I'm not positive.) you will of course need an OS. You probably know that, but if you got it for free, that isn't something I'd normally expect someone to throw in. I could be wrong.

We got the Mac with At Ease already on it. All password protected and what not, with only one account accessable. Thing is, we have permission to do absolutely nothing with it. So we need to figure out how to blow away what's currently on there, and put a new OS on it.

Ok, I'm with you know. I'd forgotten that to reach the Finder from At Ease you needed a password. Of course, that should've been apparent from the beginning.

I'll ask my dad if he knows.
