New Level Contest!
2005-10-24, 3:41 PM #1
Check the main page, and you'll notice that we now have a JK Editor's Hub Level Contest going. Check here for the rules and deadlines - http://jkhub.massassi.net/contest.php

For any JO/JA people, sorry this is only Jk/Mots. :( However, for anyone who feels like picking JED (or JKEdit) up again, this is your chance to do so. I'm planning on making at least one level for the contest. Any person or team is allowed up to three entries.

Well, discuss the contest and whether or not you're interested. Hopefully there are still a few able editors lurking around these days on here. :)

I was going to judge, but I might take part. Funny, I get to make the rules AND a level. I rock.

I may participate, if I can find time and inspiration...

Not sure yet.

I definitely would want to enter, but I lost my hard drive with all of my JK editing resources. :(

Canyon Oasis is basically only one room.

So... if I make a giant 500JKU dflt.mat box... that still counts? W00t!

I SHALL CALL IT... "THE 1337 B0X"

OH YEAH!

I assume there will be a guy who makes a box room with JKedit and throw in tons of ammo. But the judges will stop that from entering the pack.

I think I'll participate. I never get to design small rooms, all my projects are huge levels, and end up not being released..

I might join in; this would be a good way to refresh my editing skills after my rather long break :o

Yeah, Canyon Oasis is what I mean by 'one room' except that oasis is somewhat large for a 3 person DM. I suggest you all check out Death Walk for some inspiration, as it's EXACTLY what I invisioned for this contest.

It is, but there's no FLOW for 1vs1. I'm talking about having to be in the mits of the battle 24/7.

I just got done playing Death-Walk, and I have to say it's quite awesome. This is surprising considering how simple the level is, but the flow is great. I can imagine it being pretty intense with 4 or so people playing.

Still, I hav to agree, CO is the superior level in terms of design and size. Death Walk is really good, but reminds me too much of my own boringly symmetrical levels. ;)

Is there a chance for levels that may not be "graphically appealing" but kick *** in the gameplay department? Such as levels for Rolling Mod, etc?
2005-10-24, 6:56 PM #16
That's the idea, is that this LP is about gameplay, and far less about looks.

And daft, you haven't played DW with 4 people yet. I'm almost certain you'll like DW more than CO once you've had a good playthrough.

I would enter if there wasn't a totally stupid and arbitrary limit to the design of the level. As it stands now, HELL no.

Freelancer has a point. Limiting the design to "one room" is too constricting. A more flexible criterion would be something like "small to medium sized level for 2-6 players." This way you get a variety of submissions constructed with different styles. The whole point of a level pack is to combine a handful of very original, high quality levels that aren't all the same.

Thats exactly what the rules say. If they don't, take my word for it and make a level that's 'mid-sized' or 'loosely one room.' Whichever way you wanna put it.

And I'm saying that "one room" is a piss poor way of putting it. Very confusing.

Yeah, one room does sound confusing. DW looks like 2 rooms to me, for example. Ok so, a small to medium sized DM level is the new wording?

I suggest changing the text on the Hub to that wording... just for 'being clear'. :)

Just a hint, take out all references to "one room" or most of your submissions will suck. You mean a "small dm level for 3-5 people" not "one-room." There is a clear difference.

And good luck to all who enter!
2005-10-25, 6:45 PM #31
I already changed it for you english majors out there. Now you can't blame how much you suck at editing on my wordage.

Just as a side note: there seems to be alot of project pages on the Hub that have no screenshots or any real work. Any plans to "trimming" down them?

It says the due date is Dec. 25, 2006. Did you mean 2005?

Is it just me, or does it seem strange that the map pack is both MotS and JK?
