Nice episode I commercial...

I've been recently going through the star wars website, and I found a nice stash of commercials. This commercial was cool: http://www.starwars.com/episode-i/release/trailer/vhs1.html
Nothing to see here, move along.

I'm pretty sure those are on the DVD. The Darth Maul one is pretty cool.

Nice commercials. Haven't seen TPM in so long. Oh, it brings so many . . . bad memories.

WHY THE F*** DO THOSE BATTLE DROIDS TALK?
2005-10-27, 9:06 PM #6

It's like a computer saying to another computer through the speakers, "Hey! HEY! HEY! I sent you an EMAIL. Yes AN EMAIL. Just now! YES. AN EMAIL! You got it? I said, DID YOU GET IT? Oh! Okay! Awesome! IT also has an attachment! DAMMIT, I said IT HAS AN ATTACHMENT! Ah okay! See ya!"

For some reason, that website brings back memories of the TPMTC.

Ahh...I was sooo anxious for that to come out back in the day, I'm still disappointed it never made it :(. Then again none of them did.

I remember sitting in the sunroom 7-8 years ago at my old house downloading the teaser and trailer getting all exciting, tears coming to my eyes. I spent 6 hours downloading the new version of QuickTime AND the final trailer (on a 14.4 modem). I went to bed at like 2 am and got up at 6 am for school the next day, ran into class jumping up and down telling all my friends.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Parts of it came out. I released what I could. For the rest of it, you'll have to talk to The Jackal.

Yeah, exactly. In a fast-paced battle environment, you wouldn't bother with the wasted time and range in audio communication. Think about it . . .

Create output data ---> Send data as signal ---> Receive signal ---> Parse data

(can be done between any number of droids on the battlefield anywhere because the comm ship is a big server that links all the clients)

VS.

Create output data ---> Convert to sound ---> Output sound ---> Receive sound ---> Translate sound to data ---> Parse data

(works only over minimal distances, must output audio with enough volume and clarity to be heard over surrounding sounds in the environment, easy to overhear, SOUNDS EXTREMELY ANNOYING)

See? Simple.

Such inconsistencies in the battle droid army are simply a microcosm of my problems with the prequels. Wraa!

But the battledroids were designed to interact with their masters. It makes them feel more comfortable when their soldiers talk a language they understand.
And the destruction of the control ship showed, that their speech was just an asset and their real communication was handled through the ship.

Hey, I still have everything from the TPMTC... :(

Too bad after the 2nd trailer got so few comments, the TPMTC didn't go on much after that.

:(

You should so send me everything from TPMTC so I can keep it backed up if I ever get the feeling to play MOTS again.

I had some free time during class. Working didn't seem necessary. It was just Software Engineering Seminar, or, in other words, play with toys and do meaningless activities.

But it would appear they weren't talking at all, so it wouldn't really matter. They could just talk in response to orders, they wouldn't have to be constantly talking to each other even when nobody else was there. :p

Well, there has always been an audience in a theatre listening. The programmer of the droids just thought of the slight possibility that someone might be filming them.

They talked because if they didn't the audience wouldn't know what the hell was going on. But for the sake of realism, we should have all R2 and 3PO's conversations wirelessly transmited. That would really advance the plot.
Steal my dreams and sell them back to me.....

I didn't mind the droids talking as much as they sounded like a bunch of retards. In Ep III, the droid jabber was the worst. Ever.

It makes more sense for a protocol droid (3PO) to be able to talk, since that's really his job. R2 just...beeped and whistled. Although I haven't watched the prequels in a long time, I can't remember them saying anything really necessary to know in order to understand what was going on.
2005-10-30, 6:36 AM #30
Yeah and alot of the time the droids got their orders verbally from other characters... So maybe they should be able to talk. Or maybe just shut the hell up and deal with it..

I don't see how anyone can think C3PO talked any less annoyingly than the battle droids...
