Have we had a thread on this movie yet?
I just saw it and it was unbelievable. There's a hint of Cirque du Soleil (especially in the music), the narrative is almost Alice in Wonderland, but it's also a bit Labyrinth and a bit Neverending Story. There were some conventional parts that disappointed me, but overall it was bizarre and original. None of my comparisons completely nail it (it's also similar to The Cell in major ways) because the movie almost defies definition.
The visuals were amazing. It was like a vivid, moving digital collage. It really captured the essence of the director's work in digital media since the late 80s / early 90s when he started working with Neil Gaiman.
I should mention that also, because the movie is saturated with the two's originality and influence: It's written by Gaiman and directed/designed by Dave McKean (digital artist, did the Sandman covers among other things).
Has anyone else seen this? It's still in theaters for a little while. Attached is a still from one of my favorite scenes (there are many). I won't say what's actually happening in the scene because I don't want to ruin it.
