Major trouble, you might say...

This is a college major problem rather than any real sort of trouble. I am currently majoring in music performance. However, problems both in the department and the fact that the degree will probably not earn me much money at all have lead me to think about switching majors. Luckily, I am only a freshman in my first semester. I have thought about switching to majoring in either French, History, or Psychology. However, I am unsure of what types of careers I would be able to find with those types of degrees. Does anyone have any ideas?

Heh. I'm studying philology, but I feel like switching too TBH. To something like Creative Writing or Graphical Design, heh. Although I don't think I'll work in my speciality, whatever it's gonna be. But at least I'll enjoy studying then. Anyways, life's a funny thing.

You're studying the study of phil?

Just be forewarned: to get any real, permanent career with Psychology (in a field of psych), you need something more than a bachelor's. As for French and History...well, there aren't that many jobs that are geared toward those majors specifically, but, if you graduate with a degree in one, you can probably find at least some decent job simply because you have a bachelor's.

You're usually fine with an undecided major up until the end of your sophomore year. Don't worry TOO much, you still have some time.

Try and think about what you like to do (hobbies) and think about any equivilents that exist in the "professional world" or that at least make money (legally) to life off of, and what major would best help you get a job in that field.

Basically set some goals and work backwards from there.

Language degrees usually land you teaching that language. Similar with history. Combine the langauge with something like political science and you can jobs in the political field that require language skills.

If you want to major in music and still get out in 4-5 years, you have to start as a freshman. One guy here started in business but then switched to music after 2 years. This is his 6th year in college now.
