The Insightful Thread
2005-11-01, 6:51 PM #1
I wanted to create a thread that departs from the current Massassi norm. It's been around before, but what the heck, time for a new incarnation.

The premise is simple: ask a question for the person below you to answer. Please nothing idiotic or pointless such as "what is the ultimate answer?" or "do you like pie?" Make it something more along the lines of "What was the best thing that happened to you today?" or "What do you currently value most in life?" It could also be a question in regards to knowledge, but a more personal or abstract question with broad implications is preferred.

The point of this thread is to gain "insight" into the thoughts and feelings of other Massassians. Hopefully, this will serve as both a method of relieving personal stress and also sharing something about your own desires and innermost complexities.

I will start with this:

"Which would you rather have: 1 close friend or 10 good acquaintences? Explain why."

10 good acquaintences because I wouldn't be desperate trying to find that one best friend. And atleast I can say hello to more than one person.

If you could own one planet, which one would it be? Why?

Corellia. It's pretty.
(other choices is Sullust, Naboo, Rori, Courscant, and Dantooine.)

"Water or Land? Why?"
2005-11-01, 6:59 PM #4
Land. No sharks.

Do you like pie? Eh. Sorry. Em. How did you ruin your first keyboard?
幻術
2005-11-01, 7:00 PM #5
Water. Visually and Tactil-ly? It's very pleasing, as it departs from the majority... of the time we spend, aka on land.

Water is very liquid, has reflections, flows... it's just neat, and plus, structures built on and around water... a KILLER combo in my architect's mind ;)

[edit] AAGH! I have yet to honestly 'ruin' a keyboard, but several have just become old and dust-filled, and been replaced.

Which is 'better', in the most vague sense of the word: a faithful pet or a good friend? Explain.
2005-11-01, 7:07 PM #6
A human person friend, of course. Pets don't smoke.

Er. The most embarassing thing you've done when drunk?

2005-11-01, 7:07 PM #7
I've never been drunk, so I can't answer. :o

Being independent and doing things on my own is important. Being able to say what I think without being censored.

Really bad procrastinator.

What is your darkest secret, the one thing you try to keep inside of you, and try to put it in the back of your mind?
Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

I've liked the same girl for over 3 years.

Gordon Freemanm or Duke Nukem? Why?

Duke Nukem. He watches Soap Operas and saves the freakin' world. 'Nuff said.

How did you come to know about star wars/become a star wars fan?
I had a blog. It sucked.
2005-11-01, 8:39 PM #14
My father knew the story and told it to me like myth, or bed time story, then he bought the movies and we watched them like crazy! Man! Those were good days... heres a question:

What is your favorite Star Wars weapon, and why?
Nothing to see here, move along.
2005-11-01, 8:46 PM #15
The lightsaber, obviously :p

Mostly because it's kept me awake countless nights trying to figure out how to build one; and also because it has a wicked awesome noise.

What is your main goal for the next year?

*ZZHIING! ZZHHHHING! WONG!*

Loosen up, stop caring so much and just relax more because I'm generally very strict to rules and never break them.

Where did you share your first kiss?

I bvelieve in what I can see, things like love, hope and friendship, but not in some deity up in the clouds.

Does music emotionally affect you?
2005-11-02, 5:01 AM #21
Most certainly. Ska gets me pumped up and energetic, punk makes me rebellious, Radiohead depresses me, and some songs just make me feel good.

Now, how much wood would you chuck if you could chuck wood?

Do you believe the U.S forces would have massacred russians if they had successfully assaulted the USSR?

Directly after WWII I think they would not have, but later in the Cold War there would obviously be massacres as a side effect of war. (Not the best wording , but yeah).

Yes, when I saw this girl enter my Western Civ class, I thought "wow, she's a knockout. I need to go out with her." I did, and we got married. Well, married 4 years later.

When forced to eat fast food, do you go McDonalds or BurgerKing?
"Harriet, sweet Harriet - hard-hearted harbinger of haggis."
2005-11-02, 6:15 AM #27
Forced? Whatchootalkinbout? McDonalds all the way. I was brought up with a father who has an irrational hatred for Burger King, so it's mostly habit. Also, Burger King fries suck.

Stealing from Wolfy, what was the best thing that happened to you today?

Ours has become a culture of negativity, people are often proud of their depravity, so things keep getting worse because few see any point or possibility of making it better.

Why must the good go unrewarded and the bad be exulted?

Because those who do good are those who care about others as much as themselves, and those who do bad are those who care the most about themselves. Thus, the good will go unnoticed while the bad draws attention to itself, and those who are easily influenced by what they see will follow what they see.

Why is a sense of humor becoming a rare quality? [edit] -OR- Why is this thread becoming so negative?

Most likely people seem to have difficulties with realizing what is humor and what is not. As for this thread, I suppose negative things have more impact on people. Hrumph.

Quite good sometimes. I like people, especially the conversations I have with them, but I need my alone time as well.

What bothers you about yourself that other people don't notice?

Lack of motivation. My success in school... class-rank/GPA-wise (which is decreasing) is largely due to natural talent, and when I talk about how I ain' t that great, people always says 'but you're so smart!'.

Where do you want to be right now, more than anywhere else? Why?
