Your Parents + Massassi = ?

I'm wondering, how many people on here have parents who know about Massassi? If so, are they opposed to it, for it, or ambivalent? My parents think I spend too much time on the computer in general. :(

So to move on to the next question(s) of this thread - do your parents think you spend too much time on the computer? Do you think you spend too much time on it? Do they moderate it? If you weren't on the computer, what would you be doing?

And yes, I realize many massassians have moved out of the nest, but for those hatchlings still under their parent's wing - what's the case? :D

I'm an adult and do what I want. Unfortunately I'm living with my mom again (long story about why I should really kill my old roommate) and only post from work as I don't have a computer.

I reference it sometimes, and they both know of it.

My dad actually registered here as happydad to make a tech post.

And then I posted ten times as him, because I didn't notice I was logged in as happydAd, rather than happydUd.

I stumbled onto Massassi after I was in college, so my parents don't know about it. I doubt they'd care if they did.

Interesting answers everyone. But please touch upon whether you've been issued a curfew or not.

I need comfort.... >_>

not now.. I was limited to an hour a day from their computer... Didn't matter cause shortly after I had my own computer. :)

Now I live on my own.

Most people think that I actually spend way too much time on the computer as well.

I honestly don't care what they think. I'm probably one of the most fittest kids in my grade, it's not like I'm a big fat lazy guy sitting in front of the computer all the time. It's just that I enjoy it. I enjoy gaming, teaching myself things like Photoshop, Flash, HTML, etc...and all of these things have really helped me in school too. I'm finding it easier in some classes where they teach us this stuff, and I already know a bit about it.

And to answer your question, yes my parents know about Massassi, and the forums (my mom understands its a modding/level place, and my dad understands me hanging around on the forums, because he's a bit of a forum guy himself)
Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

Adult.

When I was a child, my parents didn't really seem to care. I probably haven't had a curfew since I was 8.

My mom actually thought it was a porn site at first. My mom saw the words mass and *** in the same phrase and thought of it as a porn site. I showed her it was a Star Wars site and message board. I was like 11 then. Pretty funny now that I think of it.

I never had a defined curfiew, but then again my parents never let me go out enough for that to matter. Once I started driving, the junior license curfiew of 11 PM or whatever applied for me (but apparently not one other teenager I knew). My parents always accused me of spending waaay too much time on my PC, which I did, but hey, there were worse things I could have been squandering my youth on (which I'm making up for now :P).

Now I rarely spend time on my laptop and don't have my dreambox at school. I don't miss it much, I'll play the occasional game and still rock at it, and I still surf these fora every day almost. My parents also didn't approve of my having frineds online. :(

YES MY PARENTS THINK COMPUTER IS BAD!

"It's not good for your social life"

Same here. When you share a strong sense of trust with your parents, they will let you do a lot more.

My parents are aware that I visit Massassi Temple and they frankly don't care what I do there. My father hates the fact that I'm on the computer at all but my mother doesn't mind that I'm on the computer. My sister knows about it too but she also doesn't care either.

My parents know about it, but they don't care one way or another... yeah they think I spend too much time on the computer, but I think at the age of 19 I can decide for myself. They've never tried to limit me though.

Also, I laugh at people who have curfews... as Emon said, it's trust. I could tell my parents that I was going to a party, and tell them when I was going to get back, and they wouldn't care when that time was. They knew they could count on me to be back at that time, and not try to do anything stupid.

I mention it from time to time to my dad, but I think he tunes me out most of the time. Also, I've never had a curfew.

When I was in Junior high, I remember my dad coming into the office while I was going through some papers. The computer screen showed the massassi main page and logo... and my dad said the kind, understanding, memorable, bittersweet words...

"what is MASSACRE TEMPLE?"

I'm a junior in college now, so I doubt he even knows I still go here.
(and yes, I explained that it was a star wars site at the time, he was just like "oh...ok")

Hm, now that I live on my own naturally it doesn't matter ((and I'm a huge RP junkie now))
Back when I was living home they didn't really care what I was doing with the computer, as long as I didn't spend too much time in front of it (of course I always did spend more time with it than they told me to, hah)
But yeah, my parents did restrict me to some extent, but nothing serious, more like "Sami, get your *** to the livingroom and make your homework, then you can go back to the comp"

Oh yeah, i almost forgot about the matriculation examinations, which were the most important exams of my 12 years of school, they yelled at me A LOT about my computer use during the studybreak, wanting me to chain me to a chair and study until my eyes started bleeding....so it happened that I read through only 3 books (most read 20+)) and got the second highest overall score :p
Yeah, you stay here and take life seriously. I'll go and have some fun.

My parents generally hate it, cos they know that me being on massassi and constantly doing games design made me almost fail all my exams.

The only advantage either one of them will admit to is the making friends in other countries, and I mean serious friends, and going on holiday to see them.

My Dad hates anything new and modern, especially when he percieves most of us massassians as worthless nerds who, I quote "Should have joined the Forces, that would sort out you pieces of ****"

He probably would if he could, Tib.

My mother was actually the worst when it came to stopping me from use the computer.

I used the family computer to mod in the early days.

About 3 or 4 times she changed the password so I couldnt use it, AT ALL!

I was banned from computer game making and going on massassi for about 7 months in total, between the age of 16-20.

I was 19 years old, and I was BANNED FOR 3 MONTHS!

My family really sucked sometimes, but in the end, it was kinda for my own good.

Yes, that's about all my parents know about Massassi as well (in reference to spork). I think I've told them about Massassi once or twice, but I doubt they'd remember the name. Mostly I just refer to Massassi as the internet.

Technically, I'm supposed to turn my computer off at 10:30 on weeknights, but it usually ends up being a bit later than that. I never really get curfews, which is nice since I've started going out more.

I'm an adult still living at home...

My mum's given me a complete ban on porn sites, if she sees anything porn related on the computer she will chuck out my comp's (most likely through the window :D). Otherwise what I do on them is up to me, with the exception of my dad's stone age laptop all the computers are mine and I pay for the broadband (although it is my parents phone line).

I do use the computer more than what I think I should, and a lot more than my parents think, but I don't have any time limits and never have. They don't say much about it since I'm the network administrator, tech support and do many miscellaneous jobs for them (searches, shopping, scanning, etc).

As for Massassi, I've mentioned it a few times and they don't seem that bothered.
2005-11-03, 12:01 PM #39
My parents were the reason I couldn't go onto the post your desktop threads in their presence... if they knew what half of you posted on there they'd probably have taken away my internet privelages or something. Otherwise they are cool with Massassi.

But thanks to college I dont have to worry about all that anymore :)
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

Back when I first started cming here 8 years ago, they thought this was some cult or something, but of course, back then, they were terrified of the internet. Then it grew onto them that it was an editing website for video games and stuff. My father used to like to check out the showcase forums even. lol And he called this place massasseenee lol.
