Exam question and model answer
2004-05-26, 10:47 AM #1
I was looking over a past exam paper before my exam tommorow, and this question came up.

Quote:
[random stuff about galaxies]

Hence show that the overall orbit of the star is closed in the inertial frame only if q/K = p/?

and the answer given-

Quote:
If orbit is to be closed in inertial frame, K and ? must be commensurate. That is, q/K = p/?

Anyone else think this is an ever so slightly inadequate answer?

[edit] grrr...that ? is supposed to be a capital omega, the ascii just isn't working.

What was the random stuff about galaxies?
If I got something like that on my A-Level physics paper, I'd probably try to use two other formualae to derive that one.
We don't do cosmology. :-(

I think i understood that, if only aljebreicly (wow, thats bad. oh, well. you know what i mean), and yes, that is inadequate. basicly, it says that if q/k=p/?, then q/k=p/?. rather redundant.

Ummmm, I don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about....but I COULD point out the (obvious) mistakes of every major philosophical theory...please don't kill me with your superior mathematical intelligence

The random stuff about galaxies did include equations with those things in, but all the other parts were the same, so once again all you can say is "In order for them to be the same, they have to be the same." or something equally as pointless.
And I wouldn't be sad about not doing cosmology. This module that I have the exam tomorrow for is called Physics of Galaxies, and it is sooooooooooooooooo boring! I adore all the pretty spacey stuff, but studying it painfully dull. I think I'm gonna get myself a telescope sometime though...and then a plot of land outside London where I can actually see stars!

Yep, I'm with the Outlaw - If this = that, then this = that!!

Crazy.

Hope you have better luck than me - I got a real reaming this morning for Structures and Surveying (thank god for the do-able structures question) - might've got just over half marks if I'm lucky...

I'm more interested in the forces and motion of the particles. I would be interested in quantum mechanics theories regarding black holes. Do you study anything that?

We did particle physics and also quantum mechanics this year, and there's a bit of black hole stuff in physics of galaxies.

But I don't care about any of that anymore, I'm FRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
