Congrats to Gonk and his guild for 10 manning onyxia!

Discuss.

That was his guild? Hahaha, that's hilarious. Heard about it on my guild forums.
2005-11-05, 12:17 PM #3
Yes that'd be my guild. I wasn't personally in on the 10 man kill, but it was all people who have MC+ gear. I mean we've had her on farm status for 6+ months now. We do 3 individual kills of her per week, each of which generally takes no more than 15 minutes from zone-in to dead dragon.

This was just taking it a step further. A few of us 5-manned UBRS as well a while ago, though they died at Drak due to a nasty conflag.

It's not hard to 5-man UBRS, my guild (Pacifist) has no trouble doing it. What it takes is a good group of people relatively geared well (Doesn't have to be anything MC, PVP gear is good, Class sets, ETC ETC) and Teamspeak/ventrilo is key to it.

Best experiences in the game in my opinion :p

And I see you escaped from your WoW assimilation Gonk. :P

kids at my lunch table talk in this WoW lingo and it pisses me off because they used to be cool guys, now all they do is talk about "AB", "instance", armor, level #, and "epic" whatever.

it's ****ing annoying. you guys suck :\
2005-11-05, 8:14 PM #10
Cazor, come play WoW.

You will enjoy it.

I actually have a 10 pass I could give you, you just need a vaild CC and a copy of the game.

I have a cool story for you guys.

So I'm just about to hit 40 tonight on my alt (not really an alt, but not my main)
and I have a terrible time grinding for money.

I had 64G ready to go, and handed it to one of Knights of Arcadia guildys, Trippy to be exact, and got my blue mechachicken.

I remarked that I needed 18g to train for my mount.

He opened up a trade window with me, and gave me 18g.

I felt weird after that.

Cazor, don't give in! Run while you can.

my [former] friends say the exact same thing to me as stinkywrix did, echoman. and it's pathetic. MMO people are worse than armed forces' recruiters. i really wish they knew how stupid they sound when they talk about running around azeroth at the lunch table.. i tell them to shut the hell up, because its honestly 100% the only thing they talk about.
2005-11-05, 10:22 PM #13
I have too much gold because I have too much time on my hands.

Also 5 manning UBRS is fine and dandy when you've got paladins, but real men do it with a shaman ok. :P

I must be one of the only people who plays video games a lot, even WoW, and never talk about it in real life. I try to not give the impression that I'm a geek. :p

Wow, now that's impressive! While I haven't found a good guild yet to participate it 40 man raid dungeons yet, to think that 10 people took that monster down is quite a feat. Just curious, but where is her head displayed on the horde side? Today a group of alliance took her down and this was displayed at the gates of Stormwind Castle:

I'm kinda the same way when it comes to other people talking about video games. While I admit I fall into the geek/nerd category (I'm more geek than nerd though), I really HATE being around other geeks and nerds. They just drive me crazy. I remember back in high school in art class, a bunch of asian nerds would constantly talk about their multiplayer matches in starcraft. I always cringe at hearing it and think to myself "Shut up you geeks! Don't you guys have any other interests in life?" despite the fact that I'm being completely hypocritical in thinking that. I also thought the same thing when overhearing some nerds talk about Anime and beta testing SWG in my MAYA 3D modeling class that I took over two years ago. I'm odd like that. "Hating my own kind" is what I guess you can say about me, heh :p

"10 man" : A raid group (a group that consists of more than 5 players) that consists of 10 players

"MC+ gear" : MC stands for "Molten Core" which is a raid-only dungeon that requires up to 40 players to enter. Because it requires lots of cooperation and is time consuming, usually only guilds would form a raid group to take on this dungeon. The really good sets of armor (usually epic-quality) reserved for certain classes drop off of monsters in this dungeon. People who gain these sets usually have extremely high stats (such as increased stamina, agility, intellect, etc) that gives them a great deal of an advantage over other players that don't have MC quality gear.

"farm" : The act of killing monsters for item drops/money/experience or collecting resources from gathering professions in order to make crafting items or sell for money.

"zone-in" : Entering a dungeon. Dungeons in WoW are seperate from the world server and are "instances" meaning they are a unique copy of the dungeon made only for the group that enters the dungeon.

"5-manned" : a group of 5 players.

"UBRS" : Upper Blackrock Spire. Its the upper portion of a dungeon called Blackrock Spire. Its typically raided by a group of 10 - 15 players.

"Drak" : Drakk is the dragon boss of UBRS. He is often killed a lot because he drops the chest piece or the Tier 0 armor set for most classes.

"conflag" : Not sure what Gonk meant but I'm guessing he means the debuff that Drakk casts that causes you to burn and die rather quickly.

SavageX is correct on all counts with his definitions there. (I talk gibberish far too much lately...)

Also, Onyxia and Nefarian's heads are put on massive pikes in the middle of Orgrimmar when you turn in the quests.

Like so. (Nefarian on the left, Onyxia on the right, just after our first kill of Nefarian himself.)

Since you took that so well, another few things that are GREAT to know (some 'hardcore' players don't even know these)

Shift clicking a player's name will show their name, guild, location, level and class. When in /who you can also type in the zone, guild, class, level and name (obvious). You can also use x-y for the level.

I don't really mind people giving me hints on how to play, I'm not terribly attached to any one style of playing.

In the chat window. For a person walking by, you can right click their portrait for options.

Also:

Do /ra instead of /raid for raid chat. A lot of people don't realise this much faster way :P
