Ok, so I saw The Godfather trilogy for the first time recently and I must say, it was very good. I didnt think the 3rd one was as bad as everyone said it was, nor did I think the 2nd was better than the 1st.

But I'm curious, did they intend to make a sequal after the 1st was released? The way it ends, it seems like there is bound to be another one. And with Part II as well, it seems there is guarunteed a part III, unless they intended for it to end on not such a bad note.

I also dont like the ending of Part III. So the Corleone family gets back into the underworld and Michael just dies in Sicily?

Anyways...Post your Godfather thoughts

Read the book, it's freaking AMAZING, better than the movies. Believe it. One of the most deep and entertaining novels I've ever laid eyes on.

Seconded.

Godfather is my second favorite movie, next up to Star Wars.

I can't wait for the video game next year too.

The Godfather is how I got interest into learning Italian too.

The Godfather Part I & II are in my top 10, but Part III falls short.

For a movie, Part III is still pretty good, but for the Godfather it doesn't live up. However, Part III has one of my favorite endings with the Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana. No matter how many times I see it, that ending still makes me swell up inside. Michael just lets everything out, its so heartbreaking.

I'm glad I own the boxed-set, but if I bought them when the standalones came out (as they are now) I probably would have just purchased Part I & II.

Yes, the Godfather trilogy is easy in the top trilogies of all time. I and II are almost flawless, there are nary a weak point to be found. The acting, the writing, all top notch. I too have found that III isn't nearly as bad as people make about it, that last half hour is definitely of the same quality as I and II. One could even go so far as to say Pacino did his best acting of the series in III. However, the one thing that keeps III from being great is Sofi Coppola. She is terrible in the film, everytime she is on the screen her lack of talent is readily apparent. Don't let that keep you though from finishing the entire trilogy, it's worth it.

I <3 all three.. I've seen them all numerous times... 1st one's my favorite cause the scene where michael kills the two guys in the italian restuarant is one of the best scenes of any movie.

btw, ZoSo, you should probably be using spoiler tags.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Lassev: I guess there was something captivating in savagery, because I liked it.

Excellent movies, all 3.

I & II are outstanding, and II could be two movies by themselves.

On a side note, sometimes the extended Godfather movies are on TV, anyone know about any plans to release them to DVD?

anyone ever see this film before?

i'm currently reading the book its based on, which puzo supposedly said is the sequel to the godfather, but it really only has michael corleone in a few chapters and the rest of the book follows a dramatisation of the life of a real bandit, they merge quite well but it doesnt really follow the godfather story at all.

edit: just to clarify, i've never seen this film, i was wondering if anyone has?

I've read the Sicillian, but never seen the movie. It falls short of the Godfather but still makes a worthy read, particuarly near the end. It's more of a spin-off to the first book really, a thematic sequel at a push.

No, but the Robert De Niro parts of the second movie are all based on a large part of the book that didn't make it into the first film.

I really like those movies, even though I like 'Once Upon A Time in America' more.

I tried watching that movie once, but I could not get into it. And for a 229 minute movie, you kind of have to get into it.

Your point is valid, I can see why people don't get into it. I, however, did.

OUATIA is a glorious, if messy, movie but aside from the gangster theme (and Robert De Niro) it's nothing like the Godfather.

The problem is, I don't know if I want to get my hopes up for the game. It's a game about one of my favorite movies, that's a plus. And Brando gave his voice for the game before he died, that's a plus. But EA is making it, so that might be a negative. Oh, and did I mention EA is making it, so that's a negative.

They aren't using Brando's voice either (I forget why).

Yeah I remember hearing about them scrapping it too.

I heard everyones voice was in it except for Pacino's b/c EA's rival is using him for Scarface.

If they think they can buy the rights to The Godfather and then not put Brando's voice in it...than I hope nobody buys the game and EA just quits life.

EA does suck...they should stick to Madden and thats about it. I cant think of any cool game done by EA that isnt sports. Maybe the company who made PG2&3, they might do a good job

They aren't using Brando's voice because when he recorded the lines, he was on a respirator.
2005-11-10, 2:18 PM #25
Ugh... I hate the idea of all these classic movie game tie-ins. Aside from the Godfather and Scarface there are also games of Taxi Driver and Dirty Harry in development.

And I'm suprised at the amount of original cast members they've got for the GF game. Robert Duvall was sorely missed in the third film, yet he manages to voice Tom Hagen in the game. Bloody EA and their money.

Why would the game even be worth playing when the two biggest characters in the whole godfather franchise Don and Michael Corleone, have fake or overdubbed voices

So why would they do it in the first place? Or could they just not figure out how to edit and manipulate the voice so it didnt sound like he was say....on a respirator.

Probably b/c their systems were full of John Maddens enlightening commentary

It sounded fine on the game trailer.

As pointed out, Brando was dying and was on a respirator when the voices were recorded, you couldn't possibly expect a half-decent performance out of him. Furthermore, if you've seen any Pacino movies since the early 1980s you'll know that years of smoking and alcohol abuse have completely transformed his voice.

I mean, has anyone seen any of the cutscene footage from the game? The older Duvall and Caan voices just don't seem right at all.
